I am looking at an other Barf members DRZ 400 SM. it is an 06 with 17k miles. Now saying the bike was not hammered or anything. How good are they on the piston at 17k miles would i be replacing it soon it just had valves adjusted at 15k. Basically how good are the DRZ in the higher miles?

Thanks Bryce

Mine is still running at 12K with water damage. Let others post up who might have better info.

Have the bike checked out, compression test, leakdown to see how well the motor will make power. I've seen 400's well maintained run with crappy cheap oil have half the compression it should at 10,000 miles and have seen hammered ones with over twenty be right on. Be careful, some can be a time bomb

how much would it be to have it looked over some were u think?

Although the suggestion to get the bike looked at is a good one, I'm not sure whether both a compression and leakdown test would be required. If the compression test is within spec, why would you do a leakdown test?

Compression test = easy and quick.

Leakdown test = less so.

If the bike fails a compression test, don't buy it. Simple.
