ICON Helmets.....

customer saftisfaction is different than actual quality...

a kia owner can be satisfied the same rate a mercedes owner is with their car purchase, doesn't mean a kia is just as good as a mercedes..

BINGO!!

Icon gets a bad rep from stupid marketing decisions, but they make great quality gear. I've had a mainframe helmet and a domain helmet and they were a couple of the most comfortable helmet's i've owned. I also have a shoei and hjc, but it seems the icon fit my head the best and gave me the most comfort. As long as it's dot and snell approved, who cares wut you choose. Get one that fits comfortably. I've also owned an icon motorhead leather jacket and the leather is nice and thick, feels just like the alpinestars leather and it looked nearly brand new after having it for almost 2 years. Pick what you like, who cares what others think about it :thumbup

Another helmet you might want to look at is the Kali Protectives Nira or even the Naza helmet. Kali is a local manufacture from Morgan Hill that has great helmets at great price points. We have been selling a boat load of their lids here at Santa Clara Cycle because of the fact that they are as safe ( if not safer ) than anything else on the market, they are VERY light weight, and have great price points for the quality. I have about 3k miles of ride time in my Naza carbon helmet and I will say that it is the best helmet that I have riden in by far.

Why my Icon didn't fall apart as fast as my piece of shit Arai did. IMO Arai is on a downward spiral.

Icon makes quality kit that is marketed toward squids. Everything of theirs that I've ever actually put hands on impressed the hell out of me with both the quality of build AND design.
Why they spend such effort on squids is beyond me...

This.

If you listen only to people who have actually used and owned Icon gear, you will find that most think it is very good gear.

I had an Icon jacket that was awesome. For street riding it was miles better then the A* I have. Everything about it was better. I gave it to a buddy who now uses it and loves it.

I prefer my Arai helmet, but I've owned two Icon helmets that were very good, considering the prices I paid. I too get irritated by their bizarre "urban jungle" marketing, but I can't fault the actual product. I just buy the stuff in plain black.

I guess the moral of the story is try on helmets! Btw any stores in the Antioch/ Pittsburg area other then cycle gear?

For your purpose, CG has a large enough inventory of makes and models to find a helmet that will fit you.

Landing Strip Dave?

Icons are ok, Iv had some of their gear fall to pieces on me. That was their early stuff. All the stuff in the past 2-3 years has been pretty good quality wise. Iv never heard of Kali/Naza, but Bells are made in Santa Cruz. Try em on.

Grab a Bell off the shelf and find the manufacturing tag. Made in China, just like almost everything else. They may be designed in Santa Cruz, but they're not made there.

I have an Icon Mainframe (almost 4 years) and it's great. I have a round shaped dome and it fit perfectly. Noise is not a factor since I wear earplugs. As I look for another helmet I'm still looking at just getting a new Mainframe in a different color. But listen to the people that say, just try on as many as you can and find one that fits your dome the best
