if you could ride a motogp bike...

I just read RRW new issue with Ben Spies. Pretty much reaffirms my opinion. He basically says: "The MotoGP bikes are MUCH harder to ride than WSB bikes.' Among other things, the 3" front rim and longer wheelbase to reduce wheelies make them VERY hard to turn.
I'd say it was a safe bet I'd be faster on my GSXR 600.

RS125, she's passing Jeff Gruetter, who was probably turning 2 minute laps or a bit slower, she was probably turning 1;58 or so. That is about as fast as a 125 can go at Thill. The big bikes with good riders will be running 1:52 or so.

Gruetter was fast enough to qualify for an AMA event, but not sure he ever raced in one.

I was there that day, she went around me a few times for sure.
Here's some photos from that day...

I ride an NSR50.

I could almost push a MotoGP bike faster, let alone ride it.

yamaha M1, Sepang :drool

I say yamaha instead of ducati because I would want the bike to work in my favor at least a TINY bit...

I think sepang would be such a fun track in person, all the elevation changes, awesome corners, 2 insane straights. I would pick Laguna Seca as a favorite track, but we live right here, no reason to waste a wish on that.

this is ridiculous---a 12 year-old pushing it this hard at Thill? not that she's a girl, but that she's 12!! When I took my 600 there last month I was doing 2:25's:thumbdown

seeing this makes me feel like a goddamn sloth :laughing

She's older now, and the first woman to win an AMA race.

It would be so sweet if she was fast enough on Thursday to get a wild card for the rest of the weekend.

i think i'd be faster on almost any other bike than mine after a week

Watch some of the kids at the kart track some time. Amazing how fast some of them are.

I'd like to try the Suzuki GSV-R because I ride a Suzuki and I've always loved their bikes. To complete the fantasy, I'd like to ride it at any of the main tracks in Spain or Portugal. Jerez, Estoril, Valencia, Aragon, Catalunya, or Portimao... all those tracks are beautiful and look like a blast to ride.

I think I would definitely go faster on the GP bike than I would on my SV for a couple of reasons. Obviously the difference in horsepower would help, but also my SV doesn't have the ridiculously amazing suspension, tires, and chassis options that the GP bikes are equipped with. I think even though I tend to carry a lot of corner speed on my bike, I would still corner faster on a GP bike just because the bike would make it easier.

yeah I think I agree with all of you, the GP bike can just handle so much more with the flawless chassis and tires, I think most people would definitely be faster on it.

UNLIKE an F1 car, where it doesn't even work unless it's being driven as hard as possible.......so cool though

Do you think you can use the carbon brakes hard enough to heat them up and make them work, which you have to do to heat up the bridgestones enough to make them work.

Here's what Ben Spies says: "It's REALLY HARD TO RIDE, a world superbike is much easier."

I think a few of you guys have a mistaken impression about how easy the bike is to ride.

It's not flawless. Why do you think so many guys crash? It's REALLY HARD TO TURN, it's nothing like a street bike. It turns well when you are HARD on the brakes getting the front end compressed enough to make it turn. I suspect 2/3 of the street riders out here would get two corners before they rode off the track. The bikes are beasts, they don't handle well, the riders make them work well.

Uh, F1 car = GP bike

Elias has been doing so poorly in GP because his style doesn't get enough heat in the tires. These bikes are just like an F1 car in that the brakes and tires don't work unless you are on the limit.
