If you had the power to change barf what would you do??

Nobody agrees with me. I'm leaving. :x

You're not including Crash Analysis in there?

Posts are vaporized in seconds that are off point...something I agree with in that particular section mind you.

CA lives unto itself.

Here's your poster child for my case.

If you delete the crap and tell the offenders by PM why you did it, then they will learn something and things will stay relatively cool.

Otherwise you get to choose between suspending long-standing members or letting then piss all over Budman's new policies, and either way the garbage is still there for the newcomer to mull over, and she'll likely not come back because of it.

barf has truly lost it's sense of humor.

long live the barf, the barf is dead.

I'm only half-way caught up with the tread, but ... if I had the power, what would I change?

For the *management* of BARF, I would not change much, really. IMO the system works as well as I think it can for the size of the memberships (members? *ahem*). More especially so given the large variety of people we have here in the BA, *and* our tendency to be more independent than the average.

For the *members*? If I had the power? I would magically make us *just a bit* more considerate and respectful. For many of us, BARF is our living room, back porch, garage, bar, etc. We like to come home and kick our boots off and flap our gums, be entertained, and whatnot. For some of us it serves as our office, for some others it's at least *in* our office. There's a *lot* of variety about how we use it.

But, for *all* of us, it is *shared*. It's fine for me to come home and put my feet up however I like. It's not fine for me to come to your home and put my stinky feet up on your coffee table that you may even eat off of. Because it's all shared, my coffee table *is* your coffee table and, just like me, you deserve a certain level of respect simply as another human in the same space.

BUT, I *don't* have the power. I only have the power to choose my own actions. We can really only model better behavior, not engage the bad behavior -- most of it online is just to get attention -- and hope that the others around will learn to be better.

(And, honestly, if I were to have the power, I prolly wouldn't use it: I would be making my BARF-world into what *I* want and that's not what BARF is. It's a mostly-cooperative conglomerate.)

I’d like to see more involvement from the moderators, more leaning forward and leading the group rather than sitting back and monitoring.
I see the moderators as Budman’s ambassadors. As such, each one could create a blog, or write a monthly piece on a moto related topic.
Or honor a long time member with an interview spotlighting them.
Activities where the moderators are more actively involved is what I mean.

Just my 2 cents

We don’t have as many active mods as we used to, it seems. i am a former mod and, despite living 450 miles away, i still hold an event once a month. even with what feels like passive moderation, it takes a fair amount of work from moderators to keep things moving.

asking all of them to also be authors is asking quite a bit. just my two cents having sat on both sides of the table. that said, i’d love to see folks add more moto content, too, and we have a lot of members who put in lots of effort to take pics and write reports.

Perhaps some thought could be put into growing the brand.
A lot of motorcyclists here in the Bay Area and beyond have sadly never heard of BARF when I bring it up.

Thoughts…Promote BARF through Facebook/Instagram/TikTok to increase membership. They have lots of moto group members that we could attract.

Invite Moto experts to host online discussions about gear, safety tips, racing, ADV, how to buy a used bike, etc.

Create flyers promoting BARF and ask local Cycle Gear stores, dealerships and repair shops to put our flyer in every bag upon purchase.

In general, I’m suggesting a more outward facing approach.
Yes, it would take some effort but we’re here to serve the motorcycle community, right?
If they don’t know we exist then how can we do this?

so what are you going to do to help implement and execute this plan?

I am chewing on a way to bring the PolSink back and leave me the hell out of it. Probably no moderation.

Probably pay a small fee via a charitable donation (not barf) to join for the year. 10 bux?? American Cancer society makes sense as I find politics a cancer. :laughing

All purged. Start over.

I really want nothing to do with it as I do not like seeing members sticking it to each other etc. ugly humanity to me.

How to get myself out of doing a damn thing is sort of where I am at right now. Suppose once a year I can deal with setting it up.

The thing I have noted since it has been removed is the lack of carry over of hard feelings to other spots on barf. That has been noticeable and it has been good to see.

This place is supposed to be all about feeling the love :twofinger

I have given this quite a bit of thought and here is what I’ve come up with: mods rotate in pairs, mods are active members. Berto and SFMC John, then Abby and maybe Greenmonster, for levity bike and RTmac, I dib msethunter, woodschick and TWT for sanity, sort of like that. Threats elevate to Budman for permanent ban.
