Illegal Urban Dirt Bikes - Why hasn't the craze caught on in the Bay Area

How come these guys get away with a no-chase policy yet the po-po will call in a fucking helicopter to chase my ass if I decide to bail on my streetbike to avoid a ticket?

Just depends where you are. Come down international and you're libel it get away with whatever you want lol.

Geez, back in the 70s, we all rode our mini bikes and dirt bikes all over the streets. There were easily 15 of them in my neighborhood alone. Rarely had an issue. Then again, we didn't ride like the asshats of today. We knew we had a good thing going and, as long as we didn't create problems, we would mostly get left alone.

Only time we'd ever get stopped was when we rode on the school fields.

Same here, growing up in Monterey County, we'd ride our minibikes on the street, if a cop came, you jumped off and pushed it, they'd laugh, and drive right on by. When I moved to Oceano/Pismo, the first day I lived there, some kids rode by on their minibikes, I guess going to the beach or something, I thought it was the coolest things I'd seen in years. Here in Santa Maria, I've seen a helicopter chase kids on minibikes in the river bed, a helicopter that the news says costs $2500/hour to operate. For kids riding minibikes. Incredible.

Hey! They're outside, they're not shooting anybody, they're not sucking a pipe or sticking anybody with a knife (no stereotypes please). Yeah, their young and cocky but have mad balance & throttle control!

I'd like to see this young talent parlay their skills into a moto-related career. They could be the 21st Century Moto equivalent of the Harlem Globe Trotters.

Why not? I'd pay to see 'em do a pre & halftime show at the super cross.

We (or I) don't want his gang shit invading anything I do. And don't try to tell me it isn't gang related. A friend of mine's kid thinks these gang assholes are sooooo cool. "They beat people up and stuff. They're cool." No, they're not.

I'd imagine these kids used their minibikes as transportation, and if they decided to make nuisances of themselves, someone in the neighborhood would have called their parents, and zppppf, no more minibikes for those kids.

Depends. Some parents really don't give a shit and hate cops.

That was my reality. We used some streets as connectors to our trails but if we pissed off the locals somebody calls your folks and the bikes got locked up for a while and maybe more.
At least we had folks that cared :|.

We didn't get messed with, because we were afraid of cops, afraid they would tell our parents, and showed them respect. We did this for years and years.

Dissent vill not be tolerated! You must fear ze polizei!

The guy with the pocket bike was back last night. I got to walk up right by him...it's basically a bike meant for kids to learn to ride or some really tiny 125cc. No plates of course. He was arguing with another neighborhood dude about how it cost him $1200 and there's no way he's letting the other dude ride it. He rips around on the extra-wide sidewalks too.

I probably wouldn't give a shit if I lived in the projects too.

Exactly. Half the time we were sneaking out behind our parents backs and knew that getting caught meant bye-bye minibike. We appreciated the good thing we had going on and didn't want to screw it up by being an asshat and getting the neighbors/cops pissed at us. We also kept them as quiet as possible and we showed a lot more respect for others on the road than these guys do.

Wasn't there a thread here recently about how back in the day y'all used to hoon about in the street, skin your knees, and not come back until dark, and how kids these days are a bunch of coddled wusses because they can't / won't play outside? :rofl

We don't have it out on the west coast for the same reason we don't have a Laguna GP...not enough interest :cry

Haha, seriously.

I just moved to West Oakland, next to Emeryville, and there may as well not be stop signs here. Only time I see cops show up is after an assault, shooting, or OD. But as soon as I go under the 580 into Emeryville, they are fucking everywhere.

Well, there's those guys, then there are the kids in my city that are constantly shooting each other over.......red bandanas or blue bandanas. Because they're smart.

I don't need to watch it. It's a bunch of stolen dirt bikes being wheelied around Baltimore. I know the story. I've seen it. I've been jumped by a few of said hooligans on my SV650.

Baltimore had a huge problem of motorcyclists being jumped and their bikes being stolen about a year ago. It was a no go zone for many moto commuters for months.

Fuck idolizing them.

Shit I just got threatened with impound if I get caught riding my drz in the Belmont sports complex dirt lot one more time...go do something more important mr officer, holy fuck. Wellll I did rip a wheelie over ralston too :|

My daughter and I saw a bunch of those guys while we were walking around Harlem on our trip to NYC last August.
None of the other people on the street seemed to appreciate it though.
