I getting back into dirt bikes and there are two bikes i'm looking at a 04 crf 250 and 04 rmz 250. What do you guys think is a better bike. Are there any reviews online that you guys could direct me to. They are both the same price and have not been raced.

Thanks
Garth

They are both killer bikes, it's going to come down to your preference. They both have some major reliability issues (fixed in 05 crf250, but not 05 kxf/rmz). The crf250 stock suspension is about as good as it gets, IMHO. When I had my crf450 I rode both, but after I rode the kxf I knew I was gonna sell the crf450.

They both have vavle issues, the fix is checking them all the time and/or getting Stainless Steel Valves. All the new 4strokes (450 & 250) have this problem, except for the yzf/wr, 04 & 05.

In addition to kxf/rmz have overheating issues, which can be solved by various ways. The cheapest is a high pressure radiator cap, engine ice and don't idle it for more than two minutes.

The crf250 has some piston skirt problem, that got fixed in 05.

Anyhow, check out www.thumpertalk.com for the details on either one.

Personally, I felt at home the second I got on the kxf, it feels as tiny as my xr100.

There is a RMZ that I am really leaning towards. It as the FMF header and a few extras. What is a good price for one of these in good condition.

Thanks

hrm, that's a tough one, but I would add $200 for a front end revalve to your total cost. MXShock did that plus the shock oil and a killer bike got twice as good.

that should solve your problem then. get yourself a YAMAHA. :teeth nothing like titanium valves... :thumbup

Actually, they all got Ti valve trains, but the theory is that the 5 valve design is better because blah blah blah. Plus yamaha has been making production next generation 4 strokes since the late 90's, of course the yzf400 were bullet proof too ...hmmmmmm.

Go for the KTM!

Keep an ear up, the new 250SX is on the way..

Here's my new baby, all rejetted & ready to rock!
