So Im breaking down and finally buying a pneumatic impact gun.

Ive decided on the IR 2135TiMax. Seems like a pretty popular choice for home and pros. Anyone have feedback on this particular unit or have a suggestion for something else?

Yeah, I don't use it all that much except to change or rotate wheels. It doesn't provide enough torque to break a bolt that I can't break manually. It was free to me though, so until it goes tits up I'll be using it.

I use a Snap-On MG725. Almost 1200 ft lbs (allegedly) of breakaway torque. I work with guys who have the IR 2135, and I know my Snap-On can get stuff loose that their guns can't.

Buuuuut, it's almost a $500 gun. If I wasn't a professional and used my impact guns all day, that IR 2135 would be my first choice. And you can easily score one for damn near half the price as the king shit Snap-On gun.

Might even consider the "Q" model with the muffler if I was working in the garage at home and didn't want to annoy the neighbors. But keep in mind that mufflers rob torque output from any gun.

+1 on that analysis.

The IR will last you a life time.

I've got an 800 ft. Lb Snap On that I bought off EBay for $32.00. Works just fine in my garage.

Good feedback rob. I looked at the snap on ones but i cant justify double the cost. Glad to hear good things with the IR unit

I have a Chicago cheapo that works great and needs replacement every five to ten years.

I've been totally happy with my Craftsman for many years of garage wrenching.

I've worn out a couple of those 1/2" IR's. :teeth

But yes, in normal household or automotive service, they'll last you basically forever.

I have IR. Sometimes it needs more air than my 'lil compressor will do.

Anyone have experience with an electric or even a 12V one? I've been meaning to look into them...

There's a 1/2" Milwaukee 18v that I have sitting in my Amazon wish list for somewhere under $350. Has up to 450 ft lbs of torque, so certainly good enough for lug nuts.

One of my guys at the shop has the Snap-On CT7850 18v gun which costs twice as much. Also 450 ft lbs and he has no problem with it for lug nuts (granted nothing at Acura is on there as tight as say a 1 ton truck).

i have a $40 electric one i got from kragen. the thing works better than i expected. easily takes off lugnuts. i bought it because i was changing my suspension on my car and i couldnt get some of the nuts to break loose even with a cheater bar. the little thing took them right off. i dont use it often but it always gets the job done for me.

Maybe your cheater bar isn't long enough.

I have the same 1/2" gun as well as the electric one.
I got the electric one for home and track use.. it breaks the 1098 rear axle nut off like nothing. It will remove almost all 10 lug nuts from a tractor/trailer wheel as well.
Love that gun..
That said, there is nothing wrong with IR guns. My 1" gun is IR.
CP stuff is a crapshoot sometimes.
Stay away from HF no name impacts.. junk IMO.

That's the exact gun I have and I've been using the crap out of it for probably 10 years with no problems. I can't remember any time where it ever didn't have enough power, either.

FWIW, we use MG725s at work and I actually like my IR gun better.
