In what order did you acquire gear, take MSF, get your M1 and buy your bike?

I was wondering in what order people on here acquired certain components of motorcycling. I first took MSF, got my M1, then got my bike (using borrowed gear), then my own gear.

My BF is getting into riding and first acquired his gear, got his M1 permit yesterday, is taking MSF next weekend, then apply for his M1, and will get a bike afterward. One of his friends was giving him crap for spending so much on gear & getting a permit when he doesn't even have a bike yet. That doesn't make sense to me because I believe that safety is the most important aspect of motorcycling.

What about the BARFers?

permit on friday, gear and bike on sunday. msf in the near future :thumbup

Gear, MSF, M1, Bike.

Had a nice helmet, jacket and boots instead of the AIDS+lice-infected helmets they were loaning out at the MSF class.

I knew that if I had gotten the bike first I'd be tempted to ride it anyway with squid gear and no training.

Bike + Gear together, MSF when it was scheduled.

You're boyfriend is doing it right. My history can only serve as a bad example. :teeth Besides, there was no MSF in the "olden days" when I started riding. :laughing

Seriously, your bf is doing things in a smart order.

Mine has been thus far: Permit, Scooter + basic gear, MSF, M1, collected more & better gear, Motorcycle. :)

MSF, M1, Gear, Bike......then better gear....then a better bike....then more better gear....and its keeps going.

Bike, gear... years later court ordered MSF and then M1. I've taken it twice since on my own accord. It's amazing what old and new bad habits creep back along with the things you forget.

If I had to advise myself now, it would be gear, MSF and then beater bike to learn on.

signed up for MSF >> helmet/gloves/boots >> MSF >> M1 >> Bike >> jacket/pants >> parking lots >> teh futar

(i am currently in the parking lot phase)

I did the following:

minimal gear; scooter; bike; MSF; M1; better gear; bike; bike; even better gear.

I don't recommend it for others.

Helmet, MSF, rest of the basic gear (jacket, pants, gloves), M1, Bandit 600.

Helmet (for same reason stated above regarding the loaner ones for MSF)// MSF // Bike (my boss at work was in a rush to sell so he dropped it off at my house without even me paying him) // License // paid off bike // rest of my gear.

Gear, MSF, Bike (parked), M1, then :ride

However, with hindsight, I recommend taking MSF first, as I learned about how to buy gear in the class, and ended up replacing most of my gear as a result.

Gear (jacket, boots and gloves)MSF M1 bike. Then better gear and a better bike. Then more schooling.

cheap leather work gloves
msf
m1
