are not fun when others are trying to kill you with their stupidity
Greetings

Getting ready to buy a new (used) car and one of the models I'm looking at is the G35 coupe, probably something in the 05-06 model year range.

I'm sure there are BARFers on here who own these; are there any known issues with the model or model year? How reliable are they? One of the problems I have in choosing a new car is that my trusty 14 year old integra has literally never broken down, so buying a new car that has to visit the shop would be, in a certain sense, a step backwards.

I'm particularly interested in the 6 speed coupes if that matters.

Thanks

-Jason

The engine (VQ35) is pretty reliable as its been in service for a while. I only know one owner personally and it had alot of little annoyances, but she had an early model one (03 or 04) so those issues might have been worked out in the later models.

Me personally, id go for the sedan 6MT. I dunno if you are accustomed to 2-seaters since it dont say if you had a 2 or 4 door integra, but I had a 97 Prelude SH and ill prolly never go 2 doors again. Also they dont hold their value all that well, even when they're a couple years old.

I owned '03 G35 Auto 'till last November and sold it with 40K miles. I also owned BMW 330 coupe before G35. Here is my feedback.

Cons:
Good handling but not as good as BWM.
Gas guzzler, and I mean it. 16-17 MPG in city.
Brake pads were wearing way too fast. Infiniti received so many complaints that they decided to do free brake replacements until 36K. I went thru 3 sets.

Pros:
Lots of power for its class.
Cheaper 10K than comparable BMW.
Pretty reliable.
Comes with a pussy magnet :)

i think i read somewhere they will be getting a turbo VQ in infiniti sometime soon. I would wait for that. I see if i can find the article...

Everything I've read claims the G35 has great resale value. Don't know about the 05-06 but I just got the 08 G35 Journey Sport and so far I think it might be one of the best cars I've owned. No negatives that I can think of but keep in mind this review is based on 29 hours of ownership experience :laughing

350z is cooler!

+1

my brother was seriously considering getting a g35, but he ended up going with the z after my cousin started working for a nissan dealership down south and got a sweet deal on it. I've heard nothing but good things about the g35 though. I just prefer a Z myself due to my friend used to own an old 260 and my dad had an 86 300 :teeth

G35 has a second row of seats, 350z is only a two seater. My buddies G35 has been good to him so far. No complaints from him, pretty sweat car too, looks better than a 350 too.

I've researched them a lot 'cause I wanted one. It's not the right car for me, but it's a great car. The manual is excellent, and the engine is awesome. I really liked the interior, a fresh break from Teutonic perfection. I'm told it's super-heavy and eats front tires. It never did score higher than comparable German cars in the magazines, but what other 2dr coupe can you find out there with a manual and all the modern goodies?

If you wanted something fun with a ragtop in the same price range, there's the BMW Z4 and Honda S2000, among others. If you want a smooth coupe, a CLK430 is a good one. Those new Altima Coupes look pretty sick...

I just hate the way the exhaust sounds, either make it quiet or make it sound cool

I've gone through 4 G35 sedans. Nice cars that are somewhat cheap on interior materials, but a shit load more reliable than anything from the Germans. CLK430's can be bought right...no one wants them, but you can't give them away later. Whoever said G35's have high demand is correct. 350Z's are even cheaper (materials) yet. I'd not go cheaper than a G35 for the money. Bullet proof cars..

What's your price point? There's a fair amount on the used market down at the Nissan financial sale in Riverside.

I too have been looking at one of these for some time now. They are VERY nice cars. I got to drive one for a while but it was automatic. I wanted the G35 over the Z350 because of the back seat. Granted its a small space but its space.
