With a decent amount of memory, case, screen protector and taxes the OTD price is about $2500.

My wife wants one because she takes a lot of business related online classes and zoom meetings so being able to open it up to a large screen is a big plus for her.

I was in Best Buy Saturday and asked the Apple rep about demand. She said she gets asked about the DUO 100 times a day despite the price.

But $2500???? The cheapskate in me is screaming “noooo”.

Pre-ordering starts this Friday.

The way I treat and go through phones, currently typing on this one with a cracked screen for the last year, Hell naw!!

Not even if it was given to me for free.

My wife and I have iPhone 15’s which are plenty good enough.

The Duo has a “cool factor” for sure.

You'd have to be a fool to take the first generation, that folding screen is new and just asking for trouble. I think it will be an expensive mistake for people jumping on them.

OP, your wife needs an ipad, not an oversized folding phone.

Yep, an iPad is a better answer.

For example ,there’s no visible crease when the phone is open but nobody knows how long that lasts.

Samsung makes the screen on the Duo. So it’s not a first gen screen. The hinge and rest of the phone are first gen though so who knows.

There are plenty of pics online of the Duo crease. It’s supposedly the least prominent crease.

I use the telephoto camera too often on my iPhone Pro. So I won’t be getting the Duo for this gen.

I just had the battery replaced on my iPhone 15, covered under AppleCare. This phone is only three years old. I plan to keep it until it breaks down and is not covered under the warranty.

What do I need a smart phone for? Nothing, really. Nice to have, but not necessary. I may go back to flip phone or comparable when it's time.

Just the opposite for my wife.

She runs a daycare business and uses her phone extensively to stay in touch with the parents throughout the day regarding pickup times, sicknesses, potty training, and with her licensing agencies, food program people, low-income subsidy providers, etc.

Text messages and emails mostly. She also sends photos to parents during the day showing their kid sleeping or having fun.

At night she often takes live classes on her phone offered by these same agencies that come with a paid stipend at the end of each class.

A good phone is essential to running her business. Does it have to be the latest and greatest? No.

I coulda got the samsung or iphone for free upgrade but I will not get a folding screen design. The normal designs were over a grand!

Now I get to struggle with my new screen that prevents front camera focus, fingerprint sensor does not work, and proximity sensor does not work, and sometimes the phone wigs out and will start opening random apps, even calls numbers. I think the Chinese screen has an extra chip.

I think those big folding phones are a complete waste of money. My Apple SE works perfectly. And I have a backup. ATT sent me two a few years ago. And they were free.

Would a ipad and a phone combo help? If not, a cheap chromebook will solve most of those use cases and those are quite light too.

I’m going to push for that.

I just read that a new iPad version with the A20 chip is coming out soon. Maybe later this month.

And they can be had for less then $500.

I'll wait until 3rd gen Duo before I really take a hard look at one.

I got the 17 Pro Max last year and it's a heavy bitch of a phone.

Honestly, if they came out with an iPhone Air 2 with way better battery life, I'd spring for that instead.

All Apple software is cancer. I have had to tech support enough girlfriend's phones and one miserable work phone where I know I never ever want one.

I still kind of miss Windows Mobile.
