Is being too PC interfering with your freedom of speech ?

No

But it's obnoxious and usually accompanied by deep fartbreathing.

I shouldn't say, because, umm, never mind.

Being PC has nothing to do with infringement of Freedom of Speech. People somehow like to correlate the two because they feel they should be able to act like a twat and not be called on it by their peers. You are still free to say what ever you want and people are free to call you on it or disassociate with you.

A person is allowed to spew whatever drivel enters their skulls and not get arrested for it here in the US. That's all "freedom of speech" promises. Now, if I expect all of you to put up with whatever I bang out on the keyboard and not pass judgement on it, that's probably being a little unrealistic.

I pretty much say what I want to. I think most people in any position of power have their freedom of speech severely restricted.

Think the Mozilla CEO. Lost his job for contributing his personal money to a political cause that the majority of the people voted for. He wasn't even vocal about it, he just donated money toward a cause he believed in. Any executive or probably even supervisor of any organization risks losing their job, or worse, if they say or do something that is not politically correct.

With the rise of social justice warriors (known before the internet as street mobs) I fear this sentiment will spread to the point where anyone could suffer reprecussions such as losing their livelyhood for saying something that is not PC.

:twofinger

Yes I am bored at work, bishes

No, it is not interfering with my freedom of speech, I like to say un-PC things just for shock value and to make others uncomfortable. LOL, it may be interfering with some of my professional relationships though. :laughing

Like the Dixie Chicks?

I'm not familiar with the dixie chicks. I have heard the name, but you will have to fill me in on the contreversy.

It has throttled back some things I would normally say. Especially at work. Where I work, they are very sensitive to anything that might be considered sexual or any other kind of harrassment. Nobody even tells jokes any more.

That kind of falls along the same lines of what I was talking about, but is also a bit different. As a musician, you are often selling your ideas through music. You are selling yourself, and if people like you, they buy your music. If they don't like you, they don't buy your music.

I was talking more about employees of a company that may have controversial ideas that have no effect on the product which that company puts out. Like if a Mexican mechanic has a Mexican flag on his toolbox, and a bunch of rednecks got together and told the shop owner that they would boycott his shop because this is 'merica. Or if people organized a protest outside of AT&T headquarters and demanded one of their supervisors gets fired because of his views on marriage. Or that scientist getting fired because he wore a "sexist" shirt (that a woman made for him) when they interviewed him.

I have a friend that served in the Iraq war, I don't say anything about bombs or PTSD.

I have a friend that is black, I don't say anything about slave labor.

I have a boss that thinks he's really funny, I laugh.

I have a friend that has step children, I don't make jokes about ugly step children...

I have a friend that drives terribly, I don't speak of DWA. :twofinger

Really, if you can't read your audience nor be sensitive to whom you're speaking, perhaps you think really highly of yourself and have limited ability to communicate.

Or you just don' give a fuck because you're a unique and delicate snowflake. :dunno

When a simple and innocent compliment to a co-worker like "Barbara, that's a pretty sweater you're wearing today" can get you sent to HR and be accused of sexual harassment, it's a problem.
