Is chivalry really dead?

Good lord. :rolleyes Lack of humor is understating it.

duly noted, but criticism pretty much rolls off my back unimpeded. i don’t care (all evidence of bothering to respond notwithstanding - you can write that off to bored fascination). let it slide. i’m fine with it. and i remain steadfast in my post.

am curious though at your invocation of the lord. is there some religious aspect here that i had not previously considered? are you using it in a careless way, or intentionally summoning a deity?

not funny? imagine that.

we all struggle for significance.

Easy L...it's humor and no one's on the attack here.

White people can fuck up a good joke in milliseconds. Let's just let things ride and laugh or not laugh. I come here for the entertaining comments and sometimes, find tolerance. Mostly, intolerance lately...but still good peeps.

:facepalm

It’s ok lil’ woman says the wolf . :laughing

I'm not too interested in finding the time for people that think 'step-n-fetch-it' type racist stuff is funny, in parody or otherwise. :)shrug)

Maybe neither of you got the joke. The joke had nothing to do with being racist. It was about a tv show scene. You both need to get a grip. What do you do at comedy shows just boo and heckle the entire time? You two seem like a hoot.

As for the religious questions, yes, I was summoning the lord to smite you for your wicked humorless ways.

Must we all aspire to anther's ideal of humor? What you write (quoted) is insulting and dismissive. What's happening today is the beat is changing, there's a new drummer setting the standard and this is making many uncomfortable.

Back to the original scope of this thread; I doubt the OP was implyig anything against women, feminism, or projecting a misogynist thought, rather just asking, what's changed in the world since he wasn't a part of the dating scene. It only became about these things when someone mentioned that the idea of chivalry is archaic and should be dead.

Whoever made God in the image of man definitely has a sense of humor

From what I can tell from research, the video I posted:

- Chivalry was a code of honor used by knights who were basically the libertarian mercenaries of the day
- An honor code isn't necessarily good or beneficial to most people (people do horrible things in the name of honor)
- Today Chivalry is meaningless, unless you mean it as "Men treating women real good", which is sexist and assumes to know what women want
- And if it has nothing to do with gender, they really mean "common courtesy" which is something else entirely

It doesn't have to be funny, but it isn't even slightly racist. Calling everything racist is kinda ridiculous. He quoted a classic tv show to compare a situation.

I LOL'd again...this is BARF as it started: tongue in cheek humor. Excuse the Humorless (although I still Heart LB...she's cool genes!)

That's good. I ran the calcs and that means exactly .0046% of BARF does NOT find a Lone Ranger joke (which has irony in itself..the Ranger being "Alone") humorous and in fact, racist(???). I suppose major changes for BARF are needed. Hey, at least The Lone Ranger used a real Native Canadian when they chose an actor instead of having hispanics play the role.

The beat isn't changing, people are just more considerate of their surroundings. Humor is still humor and if you've ever watched anything that's offensive AND funny, you've witnessed modern humor. As we've gotten more permissive in society, we've allowed more tasteless jokes and various groups to self deprecate in the name of humor (and $$).

But no, you keep your own sense of humor. Lord knows (The Lord Voldemort), I'd feel imprisoned with it. Kinda makes us glad we have our "own" sense of humor, hey?

To the OP:
When internetz dating, you don't ask for the gal's address. It's a little scary- especially if you've ever dealt with a stalker (those suck! :nchantr)
I stopped internet dating a long while back... the final straw was the guy who'd only had one pic on his profile, taken from a bit of a distance.
Showed up for the date with flowers (very nice), and during dinner, I kept trying to see what was going on in the upper left quadrant of his mouth... finally figured out he had 4-5 blackened, rotting stumps of teeth.
Not missing... rotted stumps. :toothless:bigbarf:bigbarf:bigbarf
No more online dating for me.

Regarding people holding doors open... for the last 3 years, I've been disabled, and walking with a cane. People (men and women) hold doors open for me every time I'm going anywhere out here in Stockton.
Much less so in the Bay Area.
I make it a point to hold a door open if I get there ahead of someone... but then they'll try to rush to the door to hold it open for me... and then we're both trying to hold the door open for each other... :laughing
But prior to being on a cane, if someone (male or female) held a door for me, I always said thank you, because it was courteous. I didn't expect it... but I appreciated it!

You wish to be added to the man bank?

Uhm… what is this, please?? :teeth
