Isolate titanium earplugs... anyone try them?

These look like a big waste of money and I would avoid reading Ride Apart reviews as they tend to be very weak and heavy on the hipster flare.

That said, maybe my ears are weird but foam plugs are hassle I don't need in my life. I stick with my SureFire EP7s and they have the added benefit of allowing some sound in for my intercom speakers. I can typically wear them all day and I have a waxy ears and only occasionally have to clean them.

I finally got a pair of custom plugs made at the motorcycle show in San Mateo a few years ago. Fabulous, comfortable, they stay in with no expansion pressure like the twist-a-foam plugs have and the most perfect noise attenuation I've ever experienced. Not total attenuation, just repeatable and excellent.

My experience with custom plugs was exactly the opposite of yours. Because the custom plugs are more rigid than foam and fit my ear precisely, they're also significantly easier to knock out of place. If my earlobe touches my helmet at all while I'm putting it on, the custom plugs get knocked out of place. On the rare occasion they stay in place, they're more comfortable than foam plugs... but not by much. Noise attenuation doesn't seem to be any better than it is with cheap foam plugs.

All in all, I thought the custom plugs were a waste of money and because they're so difficult to keep in my ear I rarely use them.

After trying foam Mack's foam ear plugs, EarPeace, and NoNoise, I found EarPeace to be the overall best balance for reducing noise fatigue while still being able chat w/ riders using my Sena 10R. I ride a naked bike, so I get a lot of wind noise.

Foam Ear Plugs - Great at reducing all noise, must-have for long trips, but unable to hear clearly when using the Sena 10R

NoNoise - It claims to reduce wind noise, but I haven't noticed much of a difference. The main problem is my loud-ish exhaust, that combined w/ the wind noise renders these near useless. People w/ stock exhaust and tall windscreens may enjoy these.

EarPeace - Reduces all noise noticeably, but not as much as foam ear plugs. Still allows me to use the Sena 10R without issues. Perfect balance of noise reduction and still being able to chat.

So about the Isolate Titaniums,

I've tried them. The attenuation seemed similar to a pair of Rooth plugs that I have that are rated at 28dB. They blocked out more than my usual pair, which are rated at 24dB.

I found them to be relatively easy to insert and remove - the ends feel like comply foam plugs for ear buds, if you're familiar with them, so you have to squeeze them like you do with regular foam plugs prior to insertion. I didn't have any issues with comfort.

I find anything with a triple flange easier to live with day to day though.

I want the two minutes back I took to read that article. Crossing ride apart off the list of anything I will browse again. Some of his words just come across as a Douche.

"Those with very noisy pipes will especially love these earplugs, because you’ll still get that loud howl, but it won’t be an eardrum-crushing din any longer, so you’ll be able to enjoy your motor even more, and for longer stretches at a time."

:rofl Ah, the earplugs arent your problem... your F'ing stupid pipes are.

As for earplugs, like others have already shared I do just fine with foam ones.

not gonna stick a piece of metal in my ear

200 pairs of Howard Leights goes for like $20 & change @ Amazon.

The box I got a couple of years ago should last another two years. :laughing

i'd like to buy some, by why MUST o buy 200?

They are available at CVS Pharmacy in packs of 20 for about 7 dollars. I use mine several times before disposal, and find them about the best I have tried. I also have a pair of rigid ones made from a mold of my ear that hurt from the pressure of my helmet. They were supplied by my former employer free of charge, or I would be pissed. I like the Howard Leights better than any thing else I've tried.

Spend the extra 10 bucks for 200 and give them out to the trick-or-treaters during Halloween.

Store them at you parents if you don't have room.

not a bad idear..

still.. my mind balks..

2 friggin hundred:wow

I'll stick with my silicone ear plugs that I wash often.

$62 for ear plugs that look like they wouldn't do shit for you just seems like something stupid to buy.

If you want to get fancy, get eargasms.

The Howard Leight MAX-1 is indeed the solution. NRR 33db.

You can spend right over $7 shipped on eBay for 50 pairs shipped to your door if you want to give them a try. That's what I did, and now I've got a 200 pair box sitting on the shelf. I use them to commute (two ~15mile trips daily), and use a new pair about every other day.

Every other day? Talk about a baller. I use the same pair for two weeks or more, and I get them at work for free.

I bought one of those 200-pair boxes ages ago. And I get a couple of weeks usage out of each pair, so I was probably only using 20-25 pairs/year. Anway, years later I ordered a new sample pack from earplugstore.com just to see if there was anything new or better fitting on the market. I was surprised to find there was a noticeable difference in my 8-year old Howard Leight MAX ear plugs and the brand-new MAX plugs I got in the sample pack. The older plugs still provided good noise reduction, but they definitely weren't as good as the brand-new plugs.

So, the moral of the story is: these things don't last forever. I'll order another 200-pair box, but plan to change plugs more frequently knowing they start to degrade at some point.

I like the Leight ones that look like a penis and balls, they're pink and yellow.

Get a set of custom made earplugs made at the next bike show or worldsbk...totally worth it...
