This cyclist went mental on me and my buddy on the weekend - serious road rage LOL

Cliffs:
- buddy and I riding on a shared auto/cycle lane - both autos and cycles have to use it. I ride on that lane all the time...
- cyclist riding in the middle of the lane
- we pass him
- he gets mad
- cycles up to me and starts yelling "ITS A GOD DAMN BIKE LANE"
- I LOL and so does everyone else
- situation escalates at next road light when my buddy gets a little heated as the cyclist is now holding up traffic on a green light

I have a short temper and over the years I've learned to just move on instead of causing a scene.

Whether the cyclist was wrong or we were wrong I really don't care... No one got hurt and that's what matters. The joys of riding in SF :ride

Oh-boy....

I see what's coming next. ....

moved to pics/vids.

interesting vid, I look forward to reading the comments.

I'm pretty sure that isn't a shared lane. I think it is a bike and bus only lane. You guys were riding in his lane and quite frankly, you buzzed him several times. Your lucky he didn't punch you in the face, because quite frankly you deserved it.

You feel good about yourself buzzing an older gentleman like that? Next time you're on the freeway, would you be in a good mood if someone in a car passed you in your lane with about a foot to spare?

I don't know if you're allowed to be there or not, but that was a really unsafe and shitty pass.

I knew this was expected from Barf...

I've been on that lane before with a number of other bikes, cycles and cars at the same time. I'm always courteous with cyclists, I cycle too...

This dude knew for a while that we were behind him and purposely kept swerving around the middle lane.

Really no reason to start yelling at me like he did. Eitherway I left, buddy was a little more aggravated then I was though.

What road was this? I'd like to know if this is a bike and bus only lane or not.
Just because you've ridden it before and gotten away with it, does not make it legal.

it is a shared bike/auto lane, as indicated by the sharrows

These lanes are all over the city and are shared lanes. The dude really was wrong about it being a bike only lane. It looks as if it is market? If so you aren't supposed to be in that lane as it is buses only, although nobody follows that rule.

OP, the left lane was totally clear. Why not just move over a lane and let the guy ride in peace? Whether you were legally right or wrong you two were acting like douches and could have just moved left and been done with it.

OP you and your friend were wrong.

CA DMV:

Motor Vehicles and Motorized Bicycles in Bicycle Lanes

21209. (a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle in a bicycle lane established on a roadway pursuant to Section 21207 except as follows:

(1) To park where parking is permitted.

(2) To enter or leave the roadway.

(3) To prepare for a turn within a distance of 200 feet from the intersection.

(b) This section does not prohibit the use of a motorized bicycle in a bicycle lane, pursuant to Section 21207.5, at a speed no greater than is reasonable or prudent, having due regard for visibility, traffic conditions, and the condition of the roadway surface of the bicycle lane, and in a manner which does not endanger the safety of bicyclists.

And also, read this:
http://www.sfbike.org/?bikelane_right_turns

He was upset at you for the right reasons. You were not supposed to be on that lane.
And your for buddy to threaten him by running him over... is a no no. :thumbdown

I hope you learn something from this and avoid this confrontation in the future.

Except it is not a bicycle lane. Bicycle lanes have two white lines, and are much narrower than a full lane. It is a shared lane.

As to the left lane being clear, yes I agree I should have crossed over but that lane has rail tracks on which I've nearly spilled on in the past. By habit I avoid rail tracks where ever possible...

Watch the video again. It clearly indicates bike lane.

From the link I attached:
In San Francisco, streets with bike lanes have the left sideline of the bike lane dashed (or sometimes dropped altogether) the last 50-200 feet before an intersection. Unfortunately, few people know what that means...

Get your ass over into that left lane and ....
