Just a quick question:

Any preferences towards leather jackets?

Does not need to be water proof.
For keeping meh warm in this Fall weather and comming Winter.
I currently own a mesh jacket, but would a leather jacket be a step in the right direction for colder conditions?

Just would like to know my fellow barfer's opinions! :frankie

Check out Vanson Leathers or the D-Store.

For winter riding..I prefer some of the textile jackets with the harder armor and removeable liner and such!

But if you are sold on leather..just go with something thats comfortable!

Should be some serious deals on leather gear, and all MC gear for that matter, on the net. The riding season is over and eventually the stores will have to get rid of their overstock. You can always throw an XXXL sized sweatshirt/hoodie over your kit, and it will take a lot of the chill out of your ride. That way you don't have to try and stuff a bunch of layers under your jacket and make it hard to move around.

I have two textile jackets (mesh and regular) and bought a Dianese leather about 7 months ago at Cycle Gear, in Sacramento. I tried leather jackets on for about a year and the Dianese 'fit' me the best + it has a thermal liner that zips in/out. In addition, the front side of the jacket is perforated, which is a slight issue in the cold, but I cured that by having some windproof nylon sewn into the front side of the liner. This set up was warm enough (w/proper layering) when I was in northern Idaho/Montana this year on my trip, when the temps dipped to the low 30's. Protection wise, I don't think there's any comparision between the leather & textile. And I wear my Alpinestars back protector any time I ride.

Leather is not a step in the right direction for colder conditions.

Toss the mesh, get the leather (perforated if you like) for summer riding and a good warm textile jacket/pants combo for colder riding.

Then... neck gator, heated grips, heated gloves, heated jacket, heated pants... usually in that order.

You do have a anti fog visor right?

buy quality American ( vanson or helimot ) if possible, the years of service should make them less expensive in the long run

A good quality textile with liner is better in the winter. But, if you must have leather, then wear layers underneath the jacket (wool, underarmour, etc.) and maybe even a neck warmer. The Dainese-D store on Van Ness has some really great deals from time to time too.

Textile is best for cold weather. I have a Tourmaster Transition 2 jacket, which I like a lot. Rev'it makes some really nice textile gear too (but they're not cheap).
