KIPOR generators?

I recently bought a used Yamaha gennie for a couple hundred bucks. It's about 10 yrs old and has a couple of dings in it, but it starts on the first pull, and is still very quiet. Supposed to be 63 dB which is right at or near the Honda rating, and it's size is only slightly wider than a comparable Honda. Of course "quiet" is a wonderful thing after having a Craftsman with a Jardine pipe on it (yes, the Jardine DID help). It was certainly the fastest-looking gennie in the pits! :)

Like Shawn said, the poor little Kipor gave up the ghost surprisingly soon while roasting tires at WSMC last year. Until then, it was running great... for a little while. Once it died though, he simply bought an RV to replace his generator with. :laughing

What made you choose that over the Honda? Cheaper, Better, more available?

Well I had been shopping for the Kipor which I had found was available on Amazon.com. So I asked my family to skimp on any x-mas presents , and give me gift certs to amazon. When I started getting cold feet about the Kipor, mostly due to feedback from this thread, I started looking around on amazon as I had these gift certs, and not cash.
I found Yamahas, but not Hondas
The 1000w Yamaha seems to be consitantly $700 on internet sites.
I have faith that it will be similar in quality to the Honda, and it comes with a two year warranty, besides it's blue, and will match the new paint scheme on my bike.
:)

WEll, I have the older KGE3000 and have no problems with it, my neighbor has the new KGE3000 and loves it. The warranty on them is 2 years. I'd put mine up against a honda anytime here's a link to a site with free shipping and is a legitimate dealer for warranty purposes click here Kipor Generators

I haven't had a problem with them honoring anything. If the generators are sold from a second rate dealer they don't warranty them, so depending on who you deal with you could get screwed, that's even written in their warranty info sheet

brian, you know it's not hard to be a BARF sponsor and you don't have to be so covert and sneaky about putting up links to YOUR shop right ;)

i have the 2000watt kipor
i have a full race and trackday season on it with no problems.
i got mine new for $500 on ebay.
worth every penny.

in a pinch, i was able to run a 60lb bosch jackhammer with it.

Get the Honda. You'll have it for a long long time so don't skimp. If you take a risk with the kipor or lesser stuff, you'll end up buying 2 or 3 in a life time and it'll end up costing you the price of the Honda. I know...the initial cost really sucks, but look at it in the long run. If you have frequent blackouts or are planning for that next natural disaster, a no worries working Honda is priceless.

you can buy a Honda EU2000i for $895.00+tax locally and not have to pay shipping :cool

Where 'bouts Eddy?

I got a swingin' deal on some basically new chicken strip warmers and now I need something to power them.

Thanks,

I work on slightly larger (5500 to 50kW) generators and motors for a living (at this time of year anyway). I'm a Generac dealer and work primarily on Generac, Honda, Kohler and Onan. My opinion is that Kipor and Robin are real crap. Wouldn't touch them. I would recommend the Honda for a small portable (1kW to 5kW) and the Generac for a larger portable (15kW). Yes they cost a lot but if you take care of them you'll end up better in the long run. One thing you have to ask yourself is how much the hassle of having a unit break down on the job is worth to you. These machines need to work 24/7 on demand and flawlessly. A failure always seems to occur in need. How much is your time worth to fix or get the unit fixed? Sure, I'll fix it but it'll cost $50 to $75 per hour plus parts for a fully tuned unit from machanical to electrical. Your choice is to buy many disposables or one reliable up front. End of story.

Well after much soul searching I sprung the extra cash and picked up the EU2000. Thanks Eddy!

In the end it's a small premium and I got a full warranty and comfort in the fact that I have never heard a single complaint about the Honda.

I should never need to buy another one and If I ever sell it, the resale will be better.

See you at the track - I'll be the guy with the $900 generator and the $200 trailer!

FWIW, I picked up an EU2000i through Eddy's contact too.

Gotta tell you guys, it's pretty sweet. So quiet, my buddy was standing 10 ft from the generator for 5 minutes and didn't realize the thing was even on until I mentioned it.

I have a total loss power system on my bike, so having a generator breakdown would be pretty fatal. Plus, looking at their resale value, I figure my total cost of ownership over a year is equivalent to a cheaper generator anyway.

Honda all the way, baby.
