Someone needs to talk me out of buying this bike for xyz bike instead.

What says barf?

If I was in the market for a bike this would be on the shortlist.

It will change who you are inside. You will become one of "those guys".
The next step in this natural progression is you will begin to refer to all Starbucks locations solely by their GPS coordinates and expect others to instinctively understand you.
Please seek out help, while there's still time.

Oh no, I made the mistake of reading the "Rider" review.

You're screwed. :laughing

Are you going to get black or orange?

Try a DCT, likely the Africa Twin. Not shifting is the best thing for sports riding.

I demo rode one very nice pricey tho

Ever time I think I’m gonna look at a KTM I think, if I’m gonna ride something unreliable it’s at least gonna be pretty and Italian. Lol.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained...:teeth

Though I must admit it's also on my super secret short list of bikes to own one day.....

The 790r is an amazing bike. Spend the $$ and get the suspension adjusted for you.

Get a set of 19"F/17"R or 17"/17" SuMo aftermarket wheels and put sticky ass rubber on them and swap them out as needed.

The motor is amazing.
The bike handles like a champ.

I have a 2020 790 adv R rally and it's insanely good offroad and fun as hell to ride on-road. I'm eventually going to get a 19"F/17"R wheelset for onroad antics, but even with the 21/18 setup and knobbies, it's a blast to tool around on.

Whoever suggested the DCT africa twin: LOL. :)

Get it. Do it now.

LOL thanks Ernie:thumbup Don't be scared of KTM quality issues (at least the Austrian made ones!)...even the jap bikes have issues from time to time. In fact, my 2018 KTM350 dirt bike is the first new motorcycle I've owned (and I've had MANY) that hasn't had some kind of issue...and it's got 100 hard hours on it.
My 890r is the best running/handling bike out of the box... that I've ever rode. Only thing I'm changing is the handelbars (too much sweep). It's better in everyway than my Ducati Hypermotard...except for looks!:laughing but don't take my word for it....I'll let you ride it!:teeth

I am that guy above. The ONLY thing that the KTM890 Duke R doesn't do well is long freeway slabbing. But add a short windscreen and even THAT is not bad.
I got one of the first 890 R's in the country (April 2020) and I instantly loved it more than any bike I have ever owned or rode GSXR750, Aprilia Tuono v2 and V4, Friends Ducati's, Triumph 675, etc.
Great suspension, amazing brakes, narrow chassis, low weight and gobs of torque and personality.
When I got CREAMED by a stupid driver while on my way to the Weaverville Rally last year, I almost cried because he totaled my bike.
Lucky for me, insurance bought me a brand new one.
The KTM 890 Duke R is the funnest, easiest to ride quickly, grin inspiring motorcycle I have ever ridden or owned. Even more fun than my DRZ SM, or my KTM 525 SM conversion.
If you have the funds, DO IT. And don't look back. (Because you will be looking forward, thru the turns and having the most fun of your life.)
Side note: As good as the stock WP suspension is, I have already upgraded the rear shock to the WP Apex Pro suspension. It turned the already great handling and feel all the way up to 11. Power commander 5, full Ti exhaust, canister delete and a bunch of light weight carbon fiber body work makes it a terrible bike to ride, Why? Because when I finally get home after a 300 mile day, my FACE hurts from smiling and giggling so much. :thumbup:cool:teeth:teeth:teeth

I considered one when making my recent purchase but I already had a Hypermotard which is sort of a close competitor to it so I wanted something a bit different.
I will get an 890R eventually though.
