KTM Duke 790

I... don't believe you. The hyper has nearly twice the on paper hp and 50% more tq.

Is this because you're wheelie'ing the hyper the entire time and sandbagging?

Yep. I own both and can confirm this. In the real world the VStrom is faster. On the track the Hyper has an advantage, but that's irrelevant to most people.

Whatever. Anyway, back in the real world that bike looks pretty sweet. A slightly less-but-more crazy version of the 1290 would be a blast!

I'll have what he's having. :laughing

$13.5k MSRP + dealer mark up + tax / ect .. sounds like you're gonna be just about $17-18k OTD .. ouch.

Guess I'll keep waiting for that 390SM .. and pick up a few used WeeStrom on CL .. I hear they're faster :laughing

Lol...what!? I usually dont respond to stuff like this on barf but cmon...sure the vstrom "may" be faster on a goat road but thats because the rider not the bike. You line both those damn bikes up...ill put my $ on the hyper.

Anyone have spare underwear after that video holy sh*t

You're sort of onto it. The hyper CG is about a foot higher, meaning you can't really use the power, negating its benefits. Come out of a tight turn wide open, 1st and 2nd gear is useless, causing you to carefully modulate the throttle to keep the front wheel down. Meanwhile, the VStrom can go WFO and enter perfect balance of a front wheel skimmer and no worry about losing traction.

Couple that with the race-derived suspension of the hyper, it upsets the balance of the bike when you encounter dips, bumps, and cracks in the pavement. The VStrom handles these without a care in the world, floating along and allowing you to focus on riding rather than holding onto the bike.

You don't wanna know what sloths eat half the time...

Well rider being equal, the VStrom is quicker and with less effort. In a straight line, sure the hyper is faster, but that's kind irrelevant.

Anyway - the KTM will be super fun I'm sure :) But Freeryde is right, it's probably not that fast.

Yeah, sounds like you just need to lean forward a bit so that you're not creating a balance point at the real wheel in order to use all of them horses.

So, no, I don't believe any of this.

Agreed. My Sumo (SMC) has a high center of gravity, and that's a good thing in the twisty bits. That's also why the seat goes almost up to the bars.

Or is the sloth just baiting? :party

I like goat roads very much but don't spend time in first gear unless its a switchback. Maybe go faster? :D
