I did not have the magical media pass that I have grown accustomed to. I had to get my shots through holes in the fence, over the shoulders of other fans that were getting their shots over the shoulders of the pros.

Since I am not going to be at the next AFM round, I figure I should put a bit of focus on some AFMers. Let's start with The Grice Brothers. Why? Because it is their fault I got 3 hours of sleep in a 36 hour period.

Nick was racing this weekend, with Todd as crew chief.

IMG_7434.jpg

All was looking great, with Nick less than a second off of qualifying pace on only his 5th time on a 600, and his first time at Laguna.

IMG_7569.jpg

Then the unthinkable happened. The announcers mentioned that there was a rider down in 11, and it looked like a highside. "Looks like local rider Nick Grice is down". I was in three, so I could not see it, but I combined my bitchin photoshop skills and my even more bitchin MS paint abilities to create this reenactment based on the description from the rider.

Sadly, he did not qualify.

Todd, being the bestest big brother ever decided that it would be only fair if he had a crash of his own.

Thanks for dragging me out after the races.

That is all for this evening, stay tuned for more later.

Thanks Max!!! That whole weekend was soo much fun, thank you for the pictures and the write up!! :thumbup

hahahahaha :rofl at the paint picture
sorry you didn't get to race, but at least you got out there! you'll get 'em next time

Way to go Brothers Darryl and Darryl! You guys are destined to have some great memories when you get older, because I know you two will never grow up. Sorry it ended like it did, but there is always next year to try it again.

Have you two headed out for Thunderhill Round 6 already? :rofl

I have a photo of the crash, missed the first part with his feet in the air, got the ending. :)

Sorry I missed the beginning, it was a pretty good flying W. :) Glad you were OK, didn't realize it was you when I shot the photos.

Great shots Craig!!! I know Nick will be excited to see them!!! He was pretty excited to show off his karate skills and prove once and for all he can kick high than the gas tank.

@Kyle - The wagon was from harbor freight...and unfortunately it also got highsided this weekend!!

@Corey - Haven't left yet, but knowing us we probably should've left straight from Laguna!

Poor Poor beautiful white bike!! but great kick Nick!

pro tip: if you stop riding side saddle:

it will be harder to just fall off the side of the bike :

Next up, we visit pit mates Greg and Jason.

IMG_9020.jpg

Greg copied the MotoGP Factory Yamaha Team and changed over to a red scheme. TooSoon?

Jason rocked the Ritz Racing Orange, was in no-mans-land for the race after almost getting his right side surgically removed by another rider on the first lap.

Lets not forget their pit crews.

Roi Holster. What can I say. There are kids out there well under half his age with more time roadracing. I have watched him since last year at Laguna (his action picture on the AMA site is one I took) and he is nothing if not consistent.

Until turn five... With the white flag out and me slightly out of position, I heard the unmistakable sound of a lowside.

Even with the crash, he still finished the season 7th in the points. Great Job Roi, and go get 'em next season!

I know there were more AFMer's out there, but I don't have a story for them. I was kinda giddy when I saw this though.

Elbow down out of nine in qualifying...

IMG_7340.jpg

Not bad ass enough? OK, how about elbow down over the curbing in two mid race? (shot over the shoulder of a guy shooting over the shoulder of a guy...)

This concludes the AFM portion of this thread. Stay tuned for the Fancy Boys of Moto GP (and some more AMA fun)
