Laid Off? Utah Here We Come!

We were up and out early the next morning...

Evidence of mining was not as prevalent as we would have thought...

We retraced our steps on the ATV trail. These little chips of stone had fallen off the canyon wall and landed rather gracefully...

They had a lovely texture...

It looked steeper going up than it did going down...

I love these red rock "road" sections...

I thought this was sandy at the time I rode it. Later in the week I would laugh at the thought...

Some of the rocky uphill switchbacks were a little more technical than I would have thought on my SM610...

After a quick stop in Boulder for an espresso and some wi-fi we headed southwest towards Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument...mind-blowing stuff!

We gassed up in Escalante, our destination Hole In The Rock down near Lake Powell. We didn't make it that night, but we had a blast trying to get there. This was a beautiful little canyon, damp and cool...

We explored the side canyons...

We headed back out to the main canyon...

And it was here that Eric realized he wasn't wearing his fanny pack. He'd taken it off at a cow-infested intersection and must have left it there before we entered the canyon. Visions of cows eating $500 worth of tools and jets was more than we could bear so we bombed back through the canyon at unsafe speeds to retrieve it. That ride was the highlight of the day for both of us :party

And there it was...unmolested thanks to our speedy return...

Of course, this meant that we had to ride the canyon yet again. Oh, darn...

Next up: dinosaur tracks in our campsite.

No, thank you for wading through all my endless photos, Cabrito!
I started with over 1100 and ended up with 799. Don't worry, though...I won't be posting all of them :laughing

:hail Never ceases to impress. It seems we had been so long without another masterpiece and this one isnt even over yet?!

I had to buy a trailbike after reading this report. :banana

I think you're joking...but I hope not! Didja get a dirt bike??

It seems to me like I hadn't been on a multi-day trip in quite some time. I live for these kinds of trips and I totally dig reliving them with y'all when I get back...it kind of helps to cement it all in my ever-failing memory. I'm glad y'all seem to enjoy them almost as much as I do :) And, yeah, 4 more days to go :teeth

More coming this evening...

Yeah, you should start a scrap book called 'tails of trails'; I'd buy it.

Capital Reef is magic ... Woods chick brings it. Thanks Woods chick :thumbup

I love all of the greater Southern Utah...but...don't know of any other place than Capital Reef...where You can see (and in solitude) it like Ya can there.

This (all of the Southwest) is World class, lookin right at, Earth's History.

Epic trip report & pics! Looking forward to finding some of these Utah places ... See you around the campfire,

Always look forward to reading your ride reports! And I must say, you were an inspiration for me to buy my 610SM as well!

Just got back from Capitol Reef, Moab, etc. Very fun! Still need to ride Escalante, didn't have time this time. Thanks for posting pics. I have a pic thread on sbr, but yours is much much better! I'm going back in a week or two, got to explore some more (and get some work done).

Oh, god, these pictures! I swear, they are more beautiful every time you post. The landscapes! The color!

Glad to hear you were able to do all of this and that everyone is still gainfully, if not delightfully, employed. :)

:( You'll do it more justice than I did.

I've been thinking about making myself a calendar using that iPhoto thingy. We do at least one ride every month so I could take a photo from last January's ride for January, etc. Heh...does that count?

Oh yeah, it's all out there in the open for all to see! Gives you a whole new sense of what time really is. We saw dinosaur tracks that are just...there! Out there on the edge of the sandstone where we camped! Coolest thing ever! I had no idea they were there. I did some research once we got home, seems there's thousands of them up there. I want to go back and find each and every one of them :)

Take me with you! Please! How about a link to your photos? I'm a member of SBR...maybe I'll just wander over for a look and see if I can find them :teeth

Nemo bought your DRZ, didn't she?? Yay!! :applause
Wait...what are you gonna ride now? :(

Thanks for the compliments on the photos. Just think, one of these days I might get a real camera and be able to take bitchin' photos like yours! Seriously, I want to learn some stuff...
