Lane spliiter not giving me 3 seconds behind

The three seconds thing was supposed to be a joke in reference to the other post on teh BARF.

FWIW, I do a 90 mile round trip commute and can comfortably split faster than a 10 MPH delta. I still try to follow the previous CHP guidelines in an attempt to be a good ambassador and set some limits for myself, otherwise I end up going faster and faster.

Yes, I did have to come to a complete stop, at an angle in between two bumpers, and then wait for the car ahead of me to move to get back out. I've gotten into the habit of turning on my left turn signal when I'm splitting and see someone on my six to let them know that I'm looking for a place to move over and let them by.

And no, I'm not a left lane camper. I hate that shit.

I love letting those guys go by, they become the blocker and I am the running back...

This.

Also on open stretches if someone wants to go faster than me in the left lane, I'm happy to let them go ahead and serve as the cop bait.

10mph is barely over walking speed. I would assume you are holding up nearly everybody. And yes, I know it is over walking speed, it is hyperbole.

You are going too slow. I split at about 30. More or less like everyone else that I see.

:thumbup I'd like to say why faster is better/easier/safer... But ...
A rider has to learn how to ride a bike, and find out for themselves.

A bunch of words in a post, really don't mean enough.

I am definitely guilty of being less than courteous to slower splitters but *only* after I followed them for a while and gave them every chance to notice me and move over. When I was younger and angrier, I would make an intentionally aggressive pass, now I just pick a spot to make sure they see me bless them with a sign of the cross - my way of saying "You need Jesus in your life, son"

I'll echo other posters... Ride your own ride and don't get caught up with the emotions of other riders. I've been the slow guy ahead and the faster guy behind. Ordinarily it takes less than 30 seconds to get out of another riders way. Whether ahead or behind, 30 seconds doesn't amount to much time at all. I'll duck in when it's safe for me, and I'll give you time to do the same if I'm behind.

If I'm behind a rider who won't duck in and it's obvious that he/she's had opportunities... I'll go around. Hand waving, finger flying or loosing my temper doesn't teach anyone anything. Another way to look at is this... road raging at another rider/driver who's slowed me down a little takes far more time than letting it go. And, isn't that the point? I'm irritated that they've slowed me down? Why invest additional angry emotional time and give them more time than they've already taken?

:facepalm
"Why" ?? We gotta teach 'em a lesson, THAT'S why :x

:laughing :twofinger

I've been doing that for YEARS. I call it launching a road probe. :laughing

360 degree situational awareness will have you knowing what is coming up behind you long before it does, allowing you to plan ahead and get out of the way smootly and safely.

Nobody owes you 3 seconds and nobody is going to give you three seconds, unfortunately.

IMO, the further your awareness extends (in 360 degrees), the safer you will be.

The 180 in front and to your sides is what matters most when splitting. I'm totally fine if that's where the rider in front of me is putting most of his attention. If he's going way too slow, I'll find a safe way to get by. If he's going a little too slow, it's not a big deal to hang back and cruise.

I disagree. 360 degree awareness has saved my life on more than one occasion.
You can be rear ended when splitting.

If one is incapable of it, or using mirrors is too difficult, they shouldn't be splitting.

Just my opinion man.:thumbup

the guy with the sling bag with a German flag colors?

I swear i've seen German flag bag guy on like 10 different bikes from SMs to scooters. :laughing

It's a PAC Designs bag, she's the only one who makes a custom bag with the flag stripes in the correct direction.:thumbup

Just one? He's usually riding a 950SM. I've been doing that commute for 2+ years and see the same people almost daily. I agree however, this particular individual does maintain a healthy pace.

I like to alternate between the 950SM and the FZ-07 for the daily commute. The scooter when I'm feeling saucy. :laughing

someone riding with a bag like that must be a real Deutsche

Where is Halitosis when we need him? Oh yeah, he got the hammer last night.. :laughing

Last time I used that name for him I was called a 'sniveling white guy.' Best be careful, you wouldn't want to taunt the trolls.:laughing

I don't get it... Never -Ever, has there been an issue for me... Front or back...

I think that's cause you live in the golden glow of a protective bubble created by angels who are constantly at your shoulder. Unfortunately for the rest of us mortals, we get to deal with the reality of, you know... reality. :thumbup

That and we live where there are, like, a million people per square inch. Up in the hills I think 3 logging trucks back to back constitutes a 'traffic jam.'

I used to live in the Bay Area... Commuted East Bay , West Bay every work day.

I was on my Motorcycle, On the San Mateo Bridge. When the Loma Prieta Quake Struck.
The Bay Area was Grid Lock for months after...

You Don't know squat about my history, or life.

It does seem like I have unseen forces protecting me though... :)
