Lasik?

Those of you who don't like contacts owe it to yourself to try Acuvue Moist 1-Days, I've worn contacts for almost 25 years and these are infinitely better than the crap I used to use.

For me it was the eye poking I couldn't get over.

Same here. Also, my brother told me of an issue once where one of his contacts slipped up to the top of his eyeball. Couldn't get the bugger out and had to go see his eye doctor to get him to remove it. That gave me the heebie-jeebies right there.

lasik....best money I ever spent. had it done 11 years ago and have had no issues. night vision was a little "stared" for the first year or so but slowly improved. not as "clear" as it was pre lasik. I say clear because I may now have a star or halo around lights at night but when there is enough light to see....I can! but the years are piling on, I can still see far away, but am now having the age induced need for longer arms so I can read a menu. never relighed on a tach to know when to shift or what gear I'm in so riding is not effected. seeing way up to turn one is more important! I have never meet anyone first have who has had issues. not saying there are no people who have had issues, just everyone I have ever spoken with has had a positive experience from Lasik

Another Scott Hyver patient...I believe it was 5600 when I went 10 years ago. I saw 20/50 with mild astigmatism before, 20/15 after. Only on my last look at an eye chart was I 20/20 both eyes open. Super worth it, and Scott Hyver offered lifetime vision correction. In addition, soon after my surgery, I was grinding metal and got a shard in my eye (I had lazy eye protection habits due to wearing glasses all the time). I made an appt for him to take a look at it. He sat me down, put a few drops in my eye, and scooped it out, saying "that was fun" as I walked out. I think he was happy to not just be doing another surgery. No charge or bill. Highly recommend him. My night glare is no worse than the double glare you already get with glasses, and my recovery time was less than a day. It was more annoying trying to keep the goggles on at night.

That is totally true. I had been so used to wearing glasses all the time you pretty much wear eyepro all the time. So I had to get used to wearing safety glasses when I work on stuff especially wire wheeling stuff, grinding, working under cars, etc... Also shorty after the surgery I started going to Ross and Marshalls buying tons of sunglasses haha because they were so cheap I didn't need a prescription. Also your eyes are a little more sensitive to light.

I got it done, $5000 bucks. I definitely can see a lot better and night driving is great now. The procedure was pure torture, and I can go into detail on how torturous it was... days after sucked, and my eyes were bloodshot for a month. Worth it? i dont know, i wouldnt do it again if i had to.

Lasik or PRK?

There is a correlation between positive reviews and small corrections.

Meaning, if you're legally blind--like I am--you ain't gonna achieve no happy, non-ghosting 20/15 no matter what.

I had LASIK about 12 years ago. My contact lens prescription was -9.00 in one eye and -9.50 in the other (blind as a bat). After the procedure, I was, in fact, 20/15 for the first five years or so. My night vision sucked before I had LASIK, and it was no better or worse afterward. I experienced no significant dry eye, halos, starburst, etc. and was able to ride my motorcycle (with no glasses) to the doctor the next day for my follow-up check.

Just within the last year or so, I've started wearing glasses for driving at night. I don't need them during the day (yet).

If I had it to do over again, I'd get the LASIK again in a heartbeat.

Glasses/contact lens wearer here, and now that I've hit the magic half-century mark (quiet in the back!) I have noticed a slight change in my vision; distance seems to remain unchanged but close-up is weaker. I've heard that your basic vision changes twice in your lifetime, once in your mid-twenties then again 20-25 years after that. I have definitely considered LASIK or the like but I guess the small percentage of issues people have had has been off-putting for me. For now I guess I'll stick to glasses and contacts, because I'll never get another pair of eyes.

Besides, "My mother gave them to me." :laughing

*shrug*

I heard PRK is a lot worse than LASIK. I had LASIK and it wasn't that bad.

The actual procedure was pretty quick. You take a bunch of atavan (benzo similar to xanax) before the procedure. Then they give you numbing drops for the eyes and the actual procedure was only like 60 seconds per eye for me, and didn't even feel that painful or anything (just kinda weird - but the drugs help you keep it together).

Then the next 2 days my eyes were hella dry and I had to put a lot of eye drops in them, and they gave me some special lubricating gel, too, which is like hardcore eyedrops - which, when I used, made the discomfort go away completely so I could sleep (made things a little blurry, though).

Then the dryness got a lot better after 3-4 days... Used eye-drops occasionally for 2-3 months after the procedure, then everything was peachy.
