Learn How To Panic Stop

Didn't really look like the car was making a U-turn. The car was coming from the large dirt parking lot that could be considered a driveway or private road since it's larger than a normal shoulder. I think the car could easily argue its case and be found in the right. The biker is more at fault for not riding with a safe stopping distance. That could have been a car exiting a driveway or road construction or anything else and he still would have crashed right into it.

Jeez y'all! A simple swerve to the left and they both would have been on their merry way. IMO Maybe the thread title shoulda been Learn how to React Instead of Panic!

So you think it was a legal turn or you think that the rider did all he could to stop his bike in time?

That's an illegal turn. The car was not pulling out of a driveway or private road, nor were they making a legal U-turn, which are the only exceptions to the double yellow law.

And any idiot could have gotten that bike stopped in time.

Well I was mostly thinking you have waaaay too many % man. Since nobody is paying me, I am not going to make statements regarding legality of things.

He made out REALLY well considering what could have happened. Not to mention he fell like a champ, landed in the dirt and rolled. I learned the good way to fall from 17+ years of skateboarding and this guys got it down.

Locked the rear brake. Poor riding. Lucky it was a modern car with plastic bumpers not an eighties pickup with two hundred pound steel bumpers.

THIS! If drivers were taught to accelerate when they see something like that, they would have been out of the way. BUT people are noobs and panic, and press the brake, making the situations worse.

that said, that guy just completely botched that one. He could have at least been braking while trying to see what the car was going to do, then release and make his move.

It's a double yellow. The car is making an illegal turn. 100 percent car's fault, legally, 100 percent riders fault for not being able to operate a motorcycle properly.

200% fault. Not sure how that would play out when filing insurance claims :laughing

Nope. Even if you react as quickly as possible, this situation still demands that you know how to stop in as short a distance as possible. He didn't do that. He froze and paid the price for it.

That is the main spot for guys taking pictures on the snake in the Santa Monica mountains.

No driveway or official parking area, it turned into some sort of parking lot because people started hanging out there to watch stuff like that.

The guy on the bike is coming down towards the turn where they constantly post videos from bike crashes but they normaly happen when people come up into that turn.

I am going out on a ledge on this one and blaming the motorcyclist. In re-watching the video, the rider is completely looking to his right. I am assuming to see how many people were going to be taking his picture. By the time he has finished day dreaming about his body positioning being immortalized....kaBLAMM....Are you f'ing kidding me!
