LEO and headlights

For years, I don't ever recall seeing a police motor with the headlights on during the daytime. I thought it was just something they did. And frankly, I don't recall seeing any police motors recently running headlights on during daylight hours.

daytime headlights are required in cali, you should of given him a verbal warning and tell him if you see him again with no lights on your gonna give him a ticket...i would. the law is the law.

And the cop would likely show you the exemption to that law. Nonetheless, give it a shot and let us know how it works out for you.

I bought my KTM from an Oakland cop with an off switch (obviously not a duty bike). Of course, it turned out the VIN wasn't as stated on the paperwork either...

anyway, apparently the US spec KTM switch just has a peg on it to keep it from going to the off position. if you remove said peg, you can turn it off.

I am just courious why a LOE can get the switch and the public can't.

Because there are times where we need to be in stealth mode.

Many moons ago we had switches to turn off the brakelights in our patrol cars so that we could "arrive" at a call at night without alerting everyone we were there with a flash of the brakelights.

They don't have those anymore?

And then wired the cars so it can't be done easily :-(

You gots it!

Indeed, the established practice of putting strobes or LED's in brake light housings, or turn signal, or headlight housing- creates a non Title 13 lamp- and is why CHP has never done that while oodles of other agencies have (for decades).

You mean while every other agency has done it. LOL

You seem to forget the #1 rule of Law Enforcement. Look cool! haaahahahahah

Sorry if I missed it, but 25650.5 VC does allow for LEO to have an on/off switch for headlights. For me, I "always" ride with mine on. In fact, as some know, I am a BIG proponent of the modulating headlight. Since we installed them on our bikes I have had my right of way violations against me SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. It also increases the visibility of the red/blues. This due to the fact that I "always" rode with my highbeam on in the daytime.

:thumbup on modulators! I noticed the same thing when I first started using them. 'Can't say that I've ever seen a officer of the law using them though. What department uses them?

I am in Rancho Cordova,, a contract city for Sacramento County Sheriff's Dept.

So, I am in Pleasanton this week and notice a motocycle at a traffic light waiting for the light to change. As is my habit, I take a closer look at the bike to identify it. Turns out to be a LEO.
This LEO is riding without a headlight on. Am I mistake or don't ALL motorcycles sold after 1979 required by law to have headlights on?

Maybe he was undercover and he didn't wanna draw attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ride:teeth

anyone have a suggestion for a cheap modulator? for some reason they don't seem to exist.

Can you define "cheap"? A quick look at Amazon shows prices from $71 to $153. There's a company - headlightmodulator.com - that has a special right now for a modulator AND a brake light modulator for $85. On my C50T I had a Signal Dynamics headlight modulator and brake light modulator and was happy with them, but I haven't gotten around to putting anything on my Ural yet.
