LEOs, please weigh-in -- justified or not?

No input from the OP either.

As far as being justified.....it could be. There was clear resistance of the suspect. They mentioned some things that may have occurred before the recording began, so maybe in the context it was justified in order to get him under control.

The last punch is a little questionable, but he was still not handcuffed so....???

Seems like everyone now has a video camera or camera phone out just waiting to record something like this to happen, then scrutinize the hell out the officers and their depts.

I think this needs to be enforced more. :thumbup

I would like posters to take a few minutes to think about what they are posting prior to submitting new threads.

It seems that lately we have had lots of news articles posted in this forum for no specific reason.

We created the LEO forum on BARF so that members would have a place where they could ask working law enforcement officers for accurate answers to their questions, get opinions, and generally shoot the breeze with officers who are enthusiastic about motorcycles.

I would like us to get back on track to have the forum serve those purposes. Please ensure that any new threads you create are related to:

Bay Area + Motorcycles + Law Enforcement

Lately we have been pretty lenient about what has been allowed to be posted. With the new year I will be more assertive in bouncing out threads that don't stick close to the purposes of this forum.

We have had some great threads started from newspaper articles where LEOs and others have posted opinions and debated back and forth. Those threads have been informative and eye opening, which is great. I don't want to discourage those types of threads at all.

If you find a story out there in the media, and want to discuss it here, ya better post it up with your opinion attached. Simply throwing a story up on the forum under a new thread to see what will be said will not be acceptable.

I look forward to another great year in the LEO forum. Please be part of the progress of the forum and not a roadblock to it.

Here's my input, despite the violation of the LEO forum posting rules:

The officers were clearly trying to bring the suspect's hands behind his back (presumably to handcuff him because he was under arrest). He was resisting the officers' attempts. The one officer punched him in the face several times as a distractionary blow to stun the suspect and have him release the tension in his arms. They were able to bring his hands behind his back. He was taken into custody. Like bojangle said, the last punch was the only one that seemed questionable to me.

What do you expect the officers to do? Ask enough times nicely and just hope that he complies? Police Officers have a job to do. If people don't voluntarily submit to their authority, they have the right to use force to effect a detention or arrest. Getting punched in the face a few times is better than having a broken arm or leg from a baton strike...

Doesn't meet the LEO Forum minimum requirements, so off to the Sink.

I've mentioned many times on this forum how I distrust and dislike the police, as they are often the same as the thugs they protect us from.

No love lost.

After watching the vid, I don't see a problem. Clearly resisting arrest, I would expect the same to be done to me were I resisting like that.

There are many cases of police abuse, this is not one. Pretty fucking clear too. Just two cops doing what is often a dirty job. It's a fine line, and being too quick to yell "Abuse" dilutes the reaction when there are REAL issues.

IMHO FWIW YMMV FU

i thought this was gonna be about having a obesity limit for cops.
