Whee!
I'm looking for a new pair of gloves for street sport/touring riding.

My priorities include:
-Must have gauntlet
-Durable wearing palm
-Must have strap at wrist

I don't need waterproof.

Some older gloves had metal rivets on the palm for longer wearing, but I can't find this anymore.

I have a few in mind, but looking for suggestions. My budget is the $200 range for a nice pair.

Helimot Buffalo Pros.

A little over your budget, but hard to beat, unless you want the overwrought styling of a lot of new gloves. Super comfy, lots of feel in spite of nice heavy, durable leather. Plus, made locally.

I'm always a little hesitant to weigh in on this kind of stuff, because Helimot advertises in CityBike and has also supported our charity rides. But they're awesome people making seriously kickass gloves. I haven't worn anything that even comes close, for me. I'm sure others will say something similar.

I got a (new pair) older gen Helimot Hi-5 gloves. They are still breaking in but they are starting to come along. $200. New gen are about $300. I am hoping they get as comfortable as people have written about them. They seem like they will do the job when necessary and have a long gauntlet. I found with my Aerostich suit being a little long in the arms, I wear the gauntlet inside the cuff and it works perfect and actually blocks all air from coming in to sleeve where as before sleeve tucked into the gauntlet it would still pull air in with negative pressure. I've worn them in 38* temps but think they are better for 45*+.

If you're looking at the street sport side - i love my A* GP Plus gloves and they are on closeout right now on the zilla. Make sure to order a size up if you wear american size now - i'm usually a large but went to an XL in these. They were tight as shit for the first few rides (painful) but once the leather broke in - they are awesome.

I've had good experience with Held gloves as well but my biggest complaint with them is that they have freakishly large thumbs.

I used to wear Scorpions but their "track level" glove cuff didnt secure over my jacket (had a friend with the same issue) - bizarre that they didnt account for the glove securing over a leather jacket.

+1 one on Helimot I have their short summer gloves. Do take some time to break in. Great service, I shortened two of my fingers with a table saw. Helimot made the gloves fit my fingers. Just looked at the Helimot web site and does not look like they make the Hi-5 in a short version. Looks like he only makes 5 gloves now.

For a little less $$ Lee Park gloves are very comfortable. I have a set of DeerSports Pci's and they are my go to pair when just a little cool.

+1

These are my go-to gloves. Durable, great protection, good value. They do run small though.

I would get Helimot, but the price is a bit much. I have a friend who can get me a deal on some of the major brands.

Right now I'm looking at:
Held Evo Thrux https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/held-evo-thrux-gloves
Alpinestars GP Plus https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-gp-plus-r-gloves
Revit Spitfire https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/revit-spitfire-gloves

I see a couple of you also recommending the GP Plus. Looks like a good glove. External stitching. Double layer palm with slider.

Support M'urica by buying M'urica made products. :toothless :later

Buffalo Pros are the same price as those Spitfires—$39 over your budget. Sure, no "bro discount" or whatever, but I predict you'll wish you'd just spent the extra few lattes' worth now, when you're spending that $239 on top of whatever you spent on "bro deal" gloves instead. :laughing

And as Outta Control says, not just American—local riders, supporting the local riding community themselves.

I'll shut up now.

Also don't forget OP they are so local you can try and pick them up that same day!

Fit is important. Try them on before you buy, preferably gloves that are broken in.
I ride with the Aerostich elkskin gloves because elkskin stretches to fit. I buy them smaller to fit my fingers and the palm will fit after a thousand miles. Yes, I tried them on at the Pop up. I have since learned to go a size down since that first pair.
I have the Helimot Buffalo Pro. Three words, " can't be beat". Deer skin will conform to your hand as well. But no need to worry about that as Helmut will shorten the fingers for you.
I had gloves with studs to protect the scaphoid bone. they were frank Thomas. You feel them. I won't wear them for distance riding as I can feel the seam even on the Buffalo Pro.
Don't do what I did and have a drawer full of gloves that I do not wear. I never worn through a glove without crashing. It is always the seams that give out first.

Not to overstate the same thing, but seriously, Buffalo Pro or GTFO. I've been through A*, AXO, Held, Scorpion, and a few others. My Buffalo Pros are the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn.
If you absolutely won't go there, I also like the Aerostich elkskin gloves. I have those as a back up.
If you need something more Racey looking, Racer is a very nice glove as well. Nice quality, good fit. I have one pair of those kicking around. I just immediately go to my Helimots when I ride.
