London sewer workers discovered a 15-ton “fatberg”

We only flare gas when we are producing more than we can burn in our generators, or when a generator or two is out of service for repairs. We can't control how much gas we produce, and our storage is minimal, so its got to go somewhere. If everything is working properly, we actually produce more power on site than we consume

Sweet. As weird as it may seem I am really glad to hear that. I know there are some industries out there that make no attempt to recover their waste energy and it boggles my mind.

thanks so much for taking the time to post those pics. We really do need to occasionally see to understand waste issues. It's just an abstraction otherwise.

“Given we've got the biggest sewers and this is the biggest fatberg we've encountered, we reckon it has to be the biggest such 'berg' in British history.”

Well... except maybe for that one that sunk the Titanic.

I don't know if anyone will be singing, "The heart must go on," with that mass of cholesterol though.

I'll just leave this here....

Read the entire thread if you don't believe the evils of "flushable" wet wipes. I am removing the fucking things from my bathroom. I don't flush them, my wife doesn't but guests do not know any better. Wipe your hoohah with them and put em in the trash, don't wipe your poo-hah with em and throw them in the fucking toilet.

And holy shit, Lights Guy, you are a fucking rock star.

And I thought our place was bad ass when we re-worked the leach field to handle 150 employees, we are weaksauce.

I would have to agree with Valgar, you are the RockStar of Barf!

I had no idea that so many people would find this kind of thing so interesting. I had figured that I was alone in my fascination for this stuff.

Is a BARF group tour of the plant in order?

I did one of these in highschool for the town waste water treatment plant, pop. 15,000, and it was rad. I can't imagine the scale difference for a population in the millions.

The smell was awful, but it was worth it to see this stuff in action.

Side question: where do the processed waste products go? fertilizer, land fill, water? The one I visited they were spitting out fertilizer to farms and clean water (at least that's what they told us) straight into a protected river. Shit in, drinking water out.

I never knew the term fatberg ever existed, and now I wish I could un-know it.

In. I can't imagine processing all that crap... damn.

Also, what happened to the doggie?? Was he stuck in some pool of yuck??

So who was the guy who posted a EBMUD job opening a year ago ?

I really like my local PD, I love my FD (my wife and I bake them cookies), but you do God's work. Thank you for your sacrifice. :hail

I find the idea of god very offensive, yet somehow I deeply support this message.
