^^that is straight forward lock picking, possibly bump keying, but then translating the picking into a key "code"
If you think of a standard ignition lock more like a master lock with a dial with 3 numbers to unlock, if the combination is 19, 31, 5, the value of those numbers is the depth of the valleys on your key. The difference being on a key there are more positi9ns, and far fewer available depths.
a similarly skilled locksmith saved my bacon once as well, cept Iwas 500 miles from home... anyway. He gave me the cut depths which ccombined with the proper key blank any locksmith could use to make a key for you. It's kinda handy because you could theoretically phone in the key you need made if you're in a hurry or whatever
