What kind of chaos can a Maligator create?

Been an owner of various working dogs for 1/2 my life. Pit Bull, Doberman, Rottweiler, Weimaraner, Husky, and German Shepard.

For the last 22yrs as a single Father I’ve been a cat household, so really out of the canine game.
Long story, short… I’m doing some residential electrical side hustle and see an unleashed Maligator in front of the next house.

Very calm, patient, and friendly dog.

So I see the homeowner come home and say; “You have a really nice dog! Is it a Belgian?”

The guy tells me he thinks it’s abandoned. It comes to his house because he has household dogs, so he leaves food and water outside for it.
Therefore, the dog uses the front of his house to hangout occasionally.

So the last few days I’ve tested the dog’s behavior by hand feeding it, checking for food aggression. I took it into the house I’m working in to see if it’s house trained.
Then I brought a harness and leashes from my Dad’s place to check leash behavior and the dog is pretty well behaved.

So, bottom line.

Is this Maligator trying to deceive me into adopting him? Is he really playing sheep when he’s really a wolf waiting to wreck havoc on my life?

I’d like to.
As a courtesy I want to get the blessing of the neighbor guy first. I’ve seen his kids petting the dog, so there’s probably some attachment.

Some of them can be pretty chill, our dog is a Malinoise looking thing and he is pretty manageable. Not a black lab or anything, but he can sit in the house without destroying things and doesn’t need constant high energy interaction.

Won’t even get out of bed before 9am unless you make him.

I’ve owned two Rottweilers. I trained one in Schutzhund for about a year and got exposed to the Malinois breed.

They. Need. A. Lot. Of. Work.

“Work” meaning they need training and a “job.” A “job” meaning protection, tracking, obedience and other avenues where they basically work. They’re not for the person who wants a trophy dog. Good luck!

Also not entirely sure about him. He’s either 100% Maligator or a mostly Maligator mix.

Fawn color with mask and the appropriate body type, but sometimes the ears give me some doubt.

I need to see his body while standing but from this pic he’s a mix.

Zero chance of control if fluffy punks you, someone else, or another animal.

All that I had on hand to see if he was leash trained. Are you suggesting a slip collar or something else?

One of my neighbors trains Mals for LEO. Extremely affectionate dogs, intelligent, easy to train, and make great pets. They have one that lives with them and is a certified bomb dog. If you let him, Rocco will climb up into your lap for a snuggle. They also have a 2 month old infant and the two of them have become best buddies. Its awesome to see the two together giggling, sniffing and grabbing each other.

I made that comment purely on the observation of the thread. A possibly abandoned “Mali gator” and you or nobody else not knowing this dogs behaviors.

The internet expert dog trainers will be in shortly. If you’re in the north bay call Michael Ellis. I’m not a dog trainer. I happen to think Malinois are the best dogs there is. Hopefully this dog turns out to be your best friend if you keep him
