MC Commuters, have you tried a scooter?

DucatiHon has it right.. One has to ride a motorcycle in order to actually strike an image... especially if it has to be a manly image.

Isn't that why scooters were invented? So women would have something to ride without getting a breeze up their vayjayjay?

Truth be told, my comment was partly because of his lovely all beige matching outfit, down to the gloves, with the jacket open showing the obligatory white t underneath. If he had been in jeans and a leather jacket, I would have just said that I could see his purse.

Dude's just minding his own business, running errands around town in his loafers. Why you gotta hate? He's definitely doable by my standards. :x

I've been commuting from SF to Berkeley on my Vespa LX (150cc - the minimum for freeway legal-ness.) It's a bit scary at higher speeds and I get blown around quite a bit on the bridges. If you're going to ride a scooter on freeways on a regular basis, get something that's at least a 250, like a Vespa GTS or a Piaggio BV.

Most modern scooters only have a front disc brake, but in five years of riding I've never had trouble stopping.

I bought a BMW F650 last week for commuting (but I'm not riding it to work until I master the clutch!) Compared to my Vespa, I feel much safer at freeway speeds and the wind doesn't bother me so much. A motorcycle (especially with fairings) will almost always cut through the wind better than a scooter.

IMO Vespa 150 , even though it is legal, it is not advisable for American (USofAmerican) highways, esp. the bay bridge.
(but you sorta kinda say the same thing)

Yeah, he looks both like a chief-architect, AND RdP's cousin! :laughing

Maxi-scooters are the ideal commuting machine and pretty darn good motorcycles. However one thing is clear, you have to be very comfortable with your manhood because you are going to take some heat from other non-scooter people.
At the local hangout, I jumped off my Burgman and got on my brothers ZX10 and some guy asked my brother, "Does he know how to ride a motorcycle?". My brother stared him down and said, "Yeah, better than you!"...cool story Bro or what?

I want to get a Ruckus or Zuma, but I would ride like a total dick on one of those. :teeth

They do make you ride like a dick.

The advantage to a maxi-scooter (love that they named them after feminine hygiene products) is that you can stash a bunch of shit under the seat. The disadvantage is that they're big scooters. The reason little scooters are such ride-like-a-dick fun is that they're little.

This, however, was lulz win.

+1 This is so true.:ride

I know - that's one of the reasons why I bought the F650.

Pretty sure I can see that guy's vagina.

Seriously, if I wanted comfort, I'd just drive a car. I ride my bike for the visceral feel it gives me. Riding a scooter doesn't give me that.

A car commute is not comfortable because traffic moves at 5mph, then 0 mph, then 5 mph.

It doesn't matter to me what you see or don't see. I'm here to tell you that, if you regularly commute via MC, you may discover something really good if you switch to a scooter.

I LOVE scooters instead of motorcycles on the road. They go anywhere, you don't have to give a shit about them AND the bonus is, you do look like a boner on one. I love mine!

I've never heard of maxi scooters until now. I've been calling them big scooters, large scooters, or just scooters to everybody.

That image is cool and it may even be local given gotbluemilk... I'm trying to think of the track it is on...

But I believe in the right tool for the job if possible, so I'll always prefer riding an R6 over a Majesty on the track:

If I just had to go around town, I can't see why not . For anything powerful enough to hit the freeway, I'd stick to an m-cycle. I wonder how scoots do on some of those hills in SF, like Potrero and such....

Thunderhill.

I tried a Burgman 400 for a bit; it didn't flutter my skirt. YMMV.

cool. I almost wanted to guess Thunderhill, but I can't think of a slow left that isn't down a hill. Almost wnated to guess T-14 dues to the black curb... Because my other guess is Infinion T-7 (b?) but Infinion keeps their curbs nicely painted.

Cool image.. but, that scooter, STOCK , has better brakes than a Ninja 650.
Well, it is also more money than it, too.

Saying "don't discount this scooter" is like saying "Don't discount the Miata". :laughing btw.. is there similarity in topics, or what!

id rather get a cruiser 1st. same comfort level but more torque.

i only like scooters for around town stuff.

+1 I used to commute on a cruiser (Suzuki Volusia). That was comfortable as hell, I could ride that thing hours on end.

i want a vespa for putting around town or visiting rural areas out of country. that be nice.

not for my commute tho. bike for its visceral feel, or car for its comfort. i dont mind stop and go traffic in the car cuz i'm not on 101. i'm on 280, where it seems the speed limit there is like 10000000000000000000000mph

My 250 Helix was WAY THE FUCK better for commuting, and even highway-riding, than our 650 Savage.

Plus, the Helix had a radio and a trunk! :teeth
