Yeah, I definitely understand what you are saying. I always have mixed feelings about this type of thing. Obviously, illegal immigration is well, illegal, and should be combated.

At the same time, practical efforts to make daily life a little easier seem a good thing to me. Not like I spend my life thinking about it, but it must be tough to try to find work, while not being able to drive, being afraid of deportation at any moment, etc.

Didn't read into the zoning/property tax issue.

I guess, had this been a purely private effort, would you be more OK with it?

And Eldritch is right. As long as politicians can pander to large groups of voter blocks, legal or otherwise, they will do what it takes to get those votes.

Shit man, it's not even about voter blocks anymore. It's about Special Interest Money and where it's going to pay for campaign funds, pay-off non-profit deals, back end real estate pay offs, etc.. The looting of our public education coffers to pay for the CA Prison Guards Union is an ideal example of that. This state is so fucked the politicos don't even care what the voters want anymore, they just know if they follow the right money they'll be gold. Meanwhile, we're breeding a population of citizens loyal to a foreign enemy and hostile to their own nation, so they can REALLY go up in arms when the Feds FINALLY have to bully their way into the state to straighten things out.
