Mid-Engine Corvette spy shots

lol - the new ones look like a transformer toy run over by a steamroller. chevy designers suck ass. no aesthetic design inspiration what-so-ever. oh hey - since when - ever in the history of automotive design, did the design of a vette follow after the design of a camaro? sad state of affairs for such an iconic brand.

True! Performance has improved a lot in the last 10 years and it remains cheap (for all that performance).

I'm pretty sure most around here have already made up their collective mind.... :thumbup

The beauty of Lou's argument is that he'll be correct either way. Either it's the new Corvette chassis but the fiberglass will be different and he'll say "See, told, ya, so! .... Not....the, new Vette..."

Or it will not be the new Corvette at all, in which case he'll say "See, told, ya, so! .... Not....the, new Vette..."

There's a certain zen to insanity, I guess... :laughing

While GM did file for the trademark "Zora" and will most certainly use that as a model designation in the near future, I think that's about the only speculation that is accurate.

Porsche 911 has pretty much looked the same for decades now for the same reason you won't see a mid engine Corvette. Also the same reason Harley's V-Rod is still just some red headed stepchild compared to the rest of the lineup. You don't fix what ain't broken. Just like the 911, the Corvette has a lot of history and tradition. Every time they try to depart from expected traditions, sure they may attract a new buyer here and there but they also greatly disappoint the loyal potential return customers. Look how much pissing and moaning has gone on about the C7's taillights. When the C6 did away with the hidden headlights, there was also an equal amount of complaints from the masses.

If they went to a mid engine, they'd have to sacrifice another thing people have grown to expect from a Corvette, a sports car with an amazingly large trunk. Making it a very good grand touring car as well.

Well said. It's possible they're going to split the line, which is what I believe they'll do. The ZR1 line will be distinctly different and a boutique car for real. The one thing that makes mid engine cars do-able now is the competency and efficiency of electronic stability programs. Most people would wad a 500hp mid engine car up in one or two corners.

A la the turbo MR2....

I have always thought of the Corvette as the all america stud car, for those with Small P#N!$ Syndrome. Good friend is a Chevy salesman, I was in the dealership a year or so ago and he showed me a new Corvette. A lot of performance for the price; just about 1/2 of something from Europe. The wife told him is was still over $50k and that was nuts. He said how may Cadillac Escalades do you see in town? Stockton has a lot as they are very popular with the Hispanic crowd. He said everyone when new cost more that the base Corvette. I think of that every time I see an Escalade.

Forget Escalade. You can easily get a Suburban to cost more than a Corvette.

I would love a new El Camino

Not gonna happen.

Before Carpocalypse and bailouts happened which ended the Pontiac division, GM had plans to bring in an El Camino like version of the G8. Which was just the Austrialian Holden Commodore. Or in the case of the would be ElCo, the Holden Ute.

Chevrolet's current SS model (along with the Caprice PPV) is also based on the Holden. So an actual Chevrolet El Camino is actually possible. Picture this with a bow tie on it...

However. GM decided to put an end to Holden production, which is scheduled to happen by 2017.

Its great that GM produces a car as cool as the corvette but if I'm dishing out that kind of dough I want elbow room and comfort. I'd pick up kart to get my trackday giggles.

And the price is right for what the buyer is getting. While it'd be super cool to have an all-American car to go toe-to-toe with Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, NSX, etc, Americans may not be ready for too much of a good thing.

Yes they are. And it sort of already exists. The 2015 Corvette Z06 can take on all but the most outrageously priced exotics.

Take a Corvette to Monaco and it becomes an "exotic"... :laughing

Taste is taste, but I find the Sting Ray very pretty, and of course so is the original topless Vette. There are some of the latter in Monaco. Always made my head turn when I was little. Well, still does.

It does that too Marcus...Robs correct.

Our perceptions of exotic must be different. Other than the previously-mentioned early models, anything on this side of Undercover Police Detective Sonny Crockett does not enter the world of exotics.
