Midsize Naked Bike

Since the OP has ridden both he probably already knows this but the ducati street fighter is quite a bit taller than the triumph street triple. I get complimented how my street triple is one of the best bikes every time I go on a group ride so that's something to think about, lol.

Fantastic bike, but not midrange; that right there is a sexy liter bike.

That bike actually doesn't make much more hp than some midrange bikes (FZ8, Street Triple). But it has a very fat powerband and a ton of torque. I think it's worth considering if you're looking at these other bikes.

Apropos of nothing I wonder why suspension is so often compromised on bikes. So many bikes have non-adjustable bits, it can't be that much more expensive to standardize on adjustable suspensions. Or for that matter to customize the springs for you when you buy a new bike.

And what is up with this note/thingy saying you should not adjust preload on the Street Triple?

Actually the CB1000R is more tame than a SF 848... less peak power and more linear delivery.

The Monster 1100evo would have even more torque... the ergos fit me a bit better vs. the streetfighter I think but YMMV.

I haven't considered the FZ8 due to my inability to test ride. Any other offerings from Japan in this size range?

Aprilia Tuono? You can't have this one though it's mine!

Only weird quirks is that it's a bit hard to find neutral at a stop, the horn is where the turn signals usually are so everytime you want to change lanes you end up honking, it's the Italian way.

Oh yeah and it's quite thirsty.

Aprilia Tuono V4r is a no brainer.

I've heard Tuono is fantastic, but it's a naked liter bike and I was looking at mid size bikes.

The V-twin Tuonos are going to be around the same horsepower as the 848 street fighter, it's a great handler, especially if you get a Factory version with the Ohlins stuff, or you can spend a lot less on a non-factory version which are also excellent.

Just curious.....where did you get this bike?

I love me 'dem triples. Get the STR!

Don't think so. Also, the FZ8 is an older R1 engine (aka FZ1 engine), debored/destroked. Not physically any smaller, sadly.

Yep - and the riding position is much more conducive to all-day comfort.

I went with the CB based on real-world performance... 110 give-or-take hp & 65 lb ft torque is more than anyone needs I need for the street (although I've seen a wide variety of dyno #s, many up in the 120 / 70 area with aftermarket pipes). At 480 lbs, and with a narrow footprint similar to a Street Triple, i'm getting the best of both the mid-size & liter bike worlds imo. Might not be the most fuel-efficient bike in the world, but this I4 has been brilliant across the board.

That said, there are a number of bikes that can fit the bill quite nicely. At the end of the day, it will likely come down to which bike aesthetically pleases you the most. Good luck with your decision OP :ride

The CB1000Rs I've sat on definitely felt smaller than my S3. Ergos were very similar to my former Hornet 600. Very nice bike and typical Honda fit-and-finish.

I really like my S3, though :D
