I'm a bit precarious about putting a Mohawk on my helmet. I'm afraid that if I were to come in contact with an impact (which I hope never happens) the Mohawk will get in the way of the roll of the helmet.

Anyone got feedback about the Mohawk attachments? Do they effect your riding protection?

Seriously??

I'm a bit precarious

No: what you are is worried or curious about a situation that may be precarious.

I'm afraid that if I were to come in contact with an impact

No: you might experience an impact by coming into contact with something hard.

Do they effect your riding protection?

You mean "affect."

The way you present your question makes a big difference.

It's too late for my "not to be a dick..." disclaimer. If you're not trolling, good for you for thinking of the safety ramifications of your unbelievably goofy "mod."

Helmet hawks are hot and will get you all the wimmenz. If there is a risk, don't worry, it's worth it! :thumbup

Do you want a serious response?

Won't be a problem. :ride

Since the mohawk would go on the TOP of your helmet, I would imagine if you were to get off the bike in such a way that the TOP of your helmet would come in contact with the ground, the .00003 extra drag you would experience from the mohawk would pail in comparison to the neck snapping force of the impact.

Actually, I can understand why the OP asks. Many rallies (such as Paris-Dakar) won't allow helmet cams that are permanently affixed to the helmet. They had a rider several years ago who crashed and his helmet-cam took the force of the impact. Unfortunately, it pushed the camera through the helmet shell. Helmets are made to take impacts against flat ground in a certain way. Anything you put on the outside of the helmet might focus the impact into a small surface area and breach the shell, causing injury. This is why the helmets with spikes on them are for "display purposes only."

However, the mohawks I have seen attach with suction cups and are soft. They will tear off in a crash and are not rigid enough to significantly change the impact absorption of the helmet.

I personally like the mohawks, it tells me who not to ride next to. Also, I think it's a ticket-magnet, but you might have to ask the LEOs about their experience with the mohawks attracting Radar and Lidar.
