Mojave to Barstow to Mojave

Most of the baja vets keep their bikes in good shape for trips like this. Mechanicals happen but for the most part folks are prepared and can handle things trailside. Flats aren't a big deal when they happen normally. We've had tube punctures, bib mousse failures, pinched tubes (sometimes tres tubos!),tubeless bladders fail, etc. Generally everyone has at least a front tube with them and the tools required to repair a flat if needed. :thumbup

This stuff looks super fun. I miss riding in sand.

those gas-bags are for the birds ... sounds like you all need to get your plated-dirt-bikes some real adventure tanks. :laughing

can just imagine 1962siia dealing with that trail-side fix and enjoying solving it in the end ... :thumbup

great thread and pics, you guys rock! :ride

I can confirm that the gas bag was the toughest trail side fix yet. Blown xr650r clutch with bolt dropped into the transmission, in the middle of nowhere Baja was an easier and faster repair!

The gas bag was so thoroughly stuck in the caliper that the caliper carrier got misaligned from the swing arm, pinching it against the axle so the rear axle wouldn’t come out to drop the rear wheel wheel. Spent a hour doing surgery to the gas bag with leather man. Eventually enough got cut away and we completely disassembled the caliper and brake rotor we were able to get it to release. Yes big tank got ordered for my bike yesterday. I brought a syphon instead of a gas bag but ended up not needing it. New bike got 50mpg easily on this trip! And this was a group effort to solve.

Great trip! I clocked 443 miles / 13.4 hours of riding. Almost perfect for a bike with a 15 hr oil change interval. :laughing

That's what I keep telling them.

The easiest and most convenient place to store your extra fuel is inside your fuel tank!

If there isn't a big enough tank available for your bike to accommodate the type of riding you want to do, then maybe you have the wrong bike...

Or its new and they haven't made the tank yet. :p

Derek has that one on his bike. :thumbup

The whale tank is on the wish list. But then again so is a 350:teeth
