Moldy Tent

Been there, toss it out.

Once packed a moldy tent for my bro on a camping trip. Good times. Still remember that smell.

BTW, every family should have a throw down tent. Buy the cheapest shit family tent you can find. Keep it in the shed for when people want to borrow your tent. Keep your good tent hidden away. I love to loan out our throw down tent. Really? It smelled? Fancy that. Musta been from the last time you borrowed it.

Great idea!!!

I have lots of super nice North Face (backpacking) gear that I would NEVER loan to anyone. I also have "Coleman (Big 5) Stuff" (car camping gear) that I have loaned out (to my coworker).

I used to work for BOTH Big 5 and North Face. I have a ton of camping/fishing gear!!!

When it comes to mold you cannot be careful, the spores in that shit is deadly.

Cleaning a tent would be as easy as setting it up, put on a respirator and hand spraying inside and out a water and chlorine mixture or a retail equivalent.

Once completed toss into a wash with OxiClean and Bleach

But in all seriousness, it may be best to toss it not billing or asking for half is a choice only you can make I commend you for that. But Mold is nothing to screw with.... that is all I am saying

Or a home brew of:
"equal parts of Water, White Vinegar and Hydrogen-peroxide is another good solution for odors, mold and mildew removal. Spray solution onto the surface and let it stand for at least 15 minutes to allow to seep through the surface and kill the mold spores. If you can tolerate the slight smell from vinegar, you may wipe dry the areas without rinsing. Otherwise rinse well with clean water and allow drying thoroughly."

You're doing it wrong if your tent gets moldy. I camp every year. Sometimes in heavy rain and sometimes in snow. It never gets moldy. You dry it off and pack it up before anything. If unable to, you do it when you get back home where its dry. You don't let it sit while its damp for a whole year until the next trip.

Exactly :thumbup I've lived in a tent a lot. And two things went wrong for the OP...
First..There are things Ya don't lend, and there are people Ya don't lend to.

Every thing says the guy that borrowed the tent, got it wet, didn't dry it, gave it back...is no friend.

I agree with the first paragraph, but not necessarily the second.

The OP didn't screw up the tent. His buddy did. Does his buddy even know that he screwed it up? If not, tell him and allow him the opportunity to make it right. We also don't know the history behind the friendship. Maybe the friend has done great things for the OP in the past.

Be honest and give your friend the same chance. :2cents

Thought "moldy tent" just meant you were wearing really old boxers with morning wood.

I go to a yearly get-together at a buddy's house
Lots of folks show up, camp in the back yard
A few years ago I had a nasty run in with some tequila
I cleaned the tent very well, and made sure it got put away dry
I make sure I get the same tent every year.

Not sure how this is relevant, but it is a fun story for me.
