Mother Of Kids Killed In Crash Says She Forgives Driver
MIAMI -- The parents of three children who died in a car crash Sunday are planning their funeral, and they said they cannot afford it.

Speaking through her attorney, Mirian Serrano talked about the nightmare she has been living. On Sunday morning, her husband, Hector, was sitting at a stoplight in their minivan on South Dixie Highway with their three children -- 10-year-old Hector, 7-year-old Esmeralda and 4-year-old Amber -- when another car rear-ended it. The three children died.

"I would never want anyone, nobody, nobody in the world to go by the situation that I am going through," Mirian Serrano said.

Police said 40-year-old Gabriel Del Risco, a man who had 26 traffic tickets in the past eight years, was responsible for the crash.

"In my heart, I lost my children. I don't hate him. I forgive him," Mirian Serrano said.

I could never, never do what this mother did. Especially given this guys record and the fact that he clearly gave no consideration towards the safety of others.

I've heard about people forgiving like this and I know that movie director's like Tyler Perry wrap their scripts around such actions, but it is just not in me to be forgiving to a person who harmed my kids.

Does anybody have some perspective on this?
 
I'd personally like to speak to her myself. I've had someone wrong me for much much much much less grave circumstances and cant for some reason seem to let it go.
 
Forgiveness is about healing and nothing else. Those who cannot find a way to forgive when they have been so terribly wronged end up suffering worse as a result of that failure. All of the people who I have read about or know personally who have found a way to forgive have said they had to do it to be alive, healthy and happy again.

I bet she is a Christian! :mad What the hell kind of stupid belief system would have forgiveness as part of its main doctrine. :mad

I disagree with this. Some things shouldn't be forgiven.

Don' jump to conclusions, you seem to be following a pattern of seeing what you want to in posts today.

I have nothing but admiration for this woman and her strength to forgive him under such circumstances, but also know what I can't do what she has done, it's simply not in my heart to do it.

Although I quoted you I didn't mean to direct it at you. I was just using sarcasm against certain groups of people with certain views.

I honestly don't know what I would do if I were in her situation, but I think her forgiving the person will make it easier for her to move on than it would be if she didn't get closure until after the trial and sentencing and ultimately the guys death many decades from now.

Why do you bet she's Christian when nearly every religion has "forgiveness" as an important part of their belief system......

I will first affirm that I have never had children, and if I ever did, I would defend them to the hilt. I have no understanding of this woman's pain, but I could see her seeing this as a circumstance of unfortunate events than that of direct offense. I wish I had her patience and understanding, yet could apply it to more fortunate situations.


How far do you want to carry the stone of anger?

Seems to me the issue is not her state as much as the state of a society that lets someone with 26 tickets still drive.
 
I believe that this particular individual has found a way to accept what has happened and not allow loss/anger to demolish her spirit.

I disagree with THIS. :p I believe, the bigger the issue, the more vital it is for you to forgive it. It's not about who they are and their "worthiness" so much as it is about accepting that some things are just so huge and awful that there can be no restitution for them. How's a lowlife like that going to pay back those parents for what he did? Killing three people. Three children. ALL of their children. Execute him? Please.

The mother is married to Hector Serrano...sounds Hispanic and most Hispanics who follow a faith are Catholic. That is why I would bet she is Christian.
 
Would you rather her harbor anger, hate and bitterness? Forgiving the person brings healing. She needed to heal more then she needed to harbor her anger. I pray I am never in her situation and I am glad she found the strength to forgive.
 
As I am someone that can carry a grudge the way others can carry a back-pack, there is something to be said about forgiveness being more for the person that was wronged... it's amazing how it can be like a weight that is lifted.

However, a situation like this would really be a test.
