I had my GPS which read between 10 and 20 mph most of the time in the better sections. On the rutted sections at times was was under 10 mph. The biggest challenge of riding a vintage bike on Usal Road is suspension. My Chief only has a few inches of travel on the girder forks and the shock and springs are old and tired. The first half, 13 miles, of Usal Road, heading south, is a bit rutted up. By the pictures I've seen of Usal Road in past years it was in good shape, but try to explain that to my triple tree. On a vintage bike you are forced to pick your lines or else the road comes straight up your arms via the forks and triple tree. No problem at all on any modern bike. The last half it turns into a nice dirt and gravel road.
My chief, with it's infinite low end torque and a three speed transmission rarely got out of first gear. And with it's low center of gravity it made for a great dual sport ride. As it never stalled out when I was going slow and handled the same when I was sitting down or standing up.
Here's a ride report on Usal Road I posted on ADVrider. http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=27124324&postcount=207
And a few more pictures of my ride on the Moto Melee.

Wow, thanks for chiming in. I was really curious. I was on a DRZ as mentioned and picking my line was still important! I'm not far from y'alls clubhouse, I really wanna check out that Indian... and sit on it.

Also, is it pathetic that 1) I know exactly where the photo above was taken (No naming names!) or 2) that I have been on it the last two weekends in a row?
