Hi! New to the forum! But I've been riding in SF and the Bay Area and beyond for nine years. I currently ride an F700GS. My favorite way of being on a motorcycle is touring/motocamping. Sometimes I'll even ride to a trailhead and take off into the mountains backpacking. I love the connection to the elements that adventuring brings. If this sounds like your kind of thing, I'm always looking for adventure buddies, especially other women. Cheers!

I’m another SF person (Lower Haight), who is entirely to your way of thinking—which is to get out of town and camp off my motorcycle as often as possible.

BARF has been helpful to me in that regard, and a couple of our usual events coming up are StonyBARF XXIII 9/24/26–9/27/2026 and the Nearby Family Rally - Lakeport October 2-4th (which is a motel destination style rally, but one can camp on the way there and/or back).

also, the usual-suspect BARF women adventure riders should be along here any moment to say “welcome”—they certainly tend to turn out in force at StonyBARF events for the campfire and pot luck … :laughing

Welcome, new motocamping BARF'er! :wave

I have been known to do a bit of motocamping every now and again, and I must say that it's one of my favorite things to do!
I'm a total failure when it comes to rallies, but I should probably think about changing that in the future.
 
Welcome to Barf! @Cabrito is another moto camper. I’ve been known to hop on my bike with a tent strapped on the back but for the past several years life has gotten in the way.

Vintage, from a camp in Yosemite, my scooter.

There was a lake close, I took a walk to see that afternoon, and came up on a campsite, recently trashed by a bear.
The occupant hadn't seen what had happened yet, found her a little ways away, heading back to camp.
I told her what I've seen, and offered my camp to regroup, share food.

She did pack her stuff and moved, we put together a meal, and called it a night.

I have lost my food to a bear, in Yosemite, I knew what it was to scrounge for a meal after a bear visit.
Bear slobber all over everything. I was on a weeks hike, lost my food, with two more days of hiking back to Camp Curry.

Whoa, thanks for sharing those events! I'll try to swing one of them. StonyBARF in particular sounds awesome. It would be great to meet some of the people here!

Wow, that's quite a story! I haven't had any bear encounters, other than a grizzly sighting from afar in the Yellowstone backcountry, but have definitely suspended my food supply a number of times in bear country. Some wonky highlights from trips:
- The man at the Oregon gas station who wouldn't stop telling me all about his carrot farm
- Staying at camp four in Yosemite and meeting some off-season park rangers who took me climbing and high-lining
- My clutch cable (on the other end of a softener, thankfully) snapping on a state road (also in Oregon, coincidentally) and having to fix that
- Meeting a bunch of people while staying at a sno-park (would you believe it, also in Oregon, near Crater Lake), who fed me dinner and shared their stories
Clearly the lesson here is that if you want a good adventure, head to Oregon!
