gpones interview(not translated yet) says he feels happy and the drive is better now, and that the understeer is prevelant once the tires are used. before then, He says he can attack the corner and take chances if he needed to to pass, or as he puts it in his rossi way, feels like he can dare.

..i don't think its this bad yet. ducati and rossi obviously have some serious hurdles to jump, but i really don't think a competitive bike is out of the question this season yet...i still think they can get a couple wins under their belts...

...and i really don't think this whole situation is as bad for rossi personally as it is for ducati. it certainly doesn't bode well for ducati's future in motogp if they can't get their bike sorted with rossi on it.
imagine if they actually can put a package together though...maybe not this season but the next. rossi could forever live on in italian motorcycle folklore as the rider who saved ducati...i think signing with ducati was more of a long-term/retirement move for him. they stand to sell a lot of motorcycles if they start winning again...

Rossi's career will never, and should never, be tarnished by his results on the Ducati. He is the GOAT, end of story.

That said, a second off pace each test? It's done. He won't be competitive, for a championship, ever again.

part of me wishes he stayed at yamaha on like a factory side team, and just chased agos record for overall...tho I still wished he retired after 2009

Me as well. motogp needs a third manufacturer up there winning from time to time. and it needs rossi winning, even of just on occassion as well. he and ducati dont need to be fighting for the title neccisarily, but 1-3 wins would be great

...this is true. I am suggesting that having a competitive motogp team will have a positive influence on their brand strength and theoretically a positive influence on motorcycle sales. the old 'win on sunday, sell on monday' philosophy, if you will...
 
I don't entirely buy into the whole 'win on sunday sell on monday' mentality. I doubt someone considering a Panigale is going to cancel his order in favor of a CBR1000 just because Stoner walks away with this season.


But on the other hand Ducati can't afford to stop racing altogether, regardless of how bad it reflects on them to have Rossi retire or leave them after being completely unsuccessful.

Ever again is a bit steep. He is getting older but you guys are missing a lot of guys (older) have been having great seasons. The other thing is, Rossi isn't really all that old. The guy can keep up and beat the kids on a yam.
 
For Rossi it's a combination of getting older and being on the shitty Ducati, with most of the issue being the bike. Get him back on a good one that doesn't require so much trial and error and error and I think he could win again no problem, probably even a title. On the Duc, no chance.
 
Don't know much on the technical side; would a lower rev limit just keep from putting too much strain on the engines? Will that kill the top speed, or will they just have to gear them differently to make up for it?

And why 5 engines? 5 doesn't go into 18 evenly...
 
Not sure what you guys got from that article but to me it's only further evidence CRT is only a negotiating tool for the rules.
