Motorcycles in the express lane?

Nope. I thought the same thing on the Benicia Bridge a few years back and my agency got a FasTrak violation in the mail.

:|

Just bill them, for patrolling their bridge. The bill might just happen to be the same amount that is owed on the fast trak violation. :mm4l

Here's from the Fastrak website/FAQ:

How do motorcycles use express lanes?

If you are riding a motorcycle, California Vehicle Code allows you to ride in Bay Area Express Lanes toll-free.

SR-237 Milpitas-San Jose and I-680 Sunol-Milpitas southbound

If you are riding a motorcycle, there are no special instructions or requirements for you to use these express lanes. A FasTrak toll tag is not required. If you have a FasTrak toll tag, put it in the Mylar bag that it came with to avoid the roadside equipment from reading it and charging you a toll. If you have a FasTrak Flex toll tag, set it in the 3+ position prior to starting your trip.

I-580 Dublin/Pleasanton-Livermore

A special FasTrak toll tag is required for motorcycles to travel toll-free in these express lanes. This toll tag, called the FasTrak Flex toll tag, has a switch on the face of the tag that must be set in the 3+ position for the roadside equipment to register you as a toll-free vehicle.

Thanks for the info.

Now why is it different between the two? It makes no sense to me.

The express lane on I-580 has special rules that are different from anywhere else in the Bay Area currently. Don't know why they set it up that way, but that's how it is.

No..Its about time, You guys get all kinds of free stuff.... coffee, doughnuts :laughing

Plus, even if that were true, this is different. It's one governmental agency charging another. It's not like officers will/should be paying out of pocket for official business.

So the answer should be, knock it off,or we will send you bills for our patrol services.

The Dept. can just ignore the citations that come in the mail. Or have a contest to see who gets the most. The bridge isn't going to come tow the patrol car...

Wait wtf, lol I never take mine in my bike. The CHP dudes here said they wouldn't care. And I got a fastrak flex in my truck

I think if you use the 580 express lane through Livermore on a motorcycle without fastrak you'll get charged whatever the current toll is.

I thought that was why you got that big "E" on your license plate... :thumbup

they stopped issuing E plates with diamond E's on them several years ago.

they'll just suspend the registration. :teeth

Actually, the "Exempt" part means the vehicles are exempt from registration fees.

9103. (a) Fees specified in this code, except fees for duplicate
plates, certificates, or cards, are not required to be paid for any
vehicle of a type subject to registration under this code owned by
the United States or by any state or political subdivision of a state
or by any municipality duly organized under the California
Constitution or laws of this state.
(b) The registration fees specified in this code, except fees for
duplicate plates, certificates, or cards, are not required to be paid
for any vehicle owned by a public entity described in subdivision
(f) of Section 15975 of the Government Code.
