Motorcycles to pay 50% on toll lanes?

FWIW, I have a stron memory of tossing coins into the baskets on the east coast toll roads.

It was a stormy night on my CX500 with a big fairing, standing at the toll gate trying to fish some quarters out of my jeans pocket - the grid was slippery AH, but I made my donation and struggled to keep my lane with the sail and wind as I crossed. I would have never guessed those were the good times...

Why do I see both coming... Keep a reduced gas tax and charge for milage.

Maybe I don't trust the overlords. :dunno

:laughing

Wanna know how I know some of you have never been to Texas?

Toll lanes bro...? Aren't those private roadways built and maintained by XYZ and not the State?

Heck if they put a parallel to HWY 5 that had a 100mph speed limit I would buy in. :teeth

Won't work without GPS based tracking and that alone should have people very concerned. Without GPS based tracking, CA won't know what are in-state miles and what are out-state miles.

They (Ca.gov) should stop stealing road funds and using them for non-road programs. There's plenty of $$ to repave all the roads in the state ever decade at a minimum. Actually, I calc'd about every 5 years.

Maybe I don't trust the overlords. :dunno

Please remove the word "maybe" from your Lexicon. You're the wise man here...lead us the right direction!

Yep why bother when we can split lanes. If they charged us to split lanes now that would suck. In my opinion we should be able to use the express lanes for free.

I remember when the bridge tolls were 50% off for motorcycles. $1 for cars and 50 cents for bikes.
sigh...

I just FINALLY got a Fastrak Flex so I can use those damn express lanes on the Triumph and now this. Sigh. TBH, for all my years of commuting I never needed the the tags but I am making about 26 daily visits down to Dublin through that hellscape of a highway and decided to get with it. If I have Ms. BA with me (in the car), I can use those lanes free but it’s not exactly exciting for her.

Just set your transponder to '3' and call it a day

I thought bikes can use toll lanes anytime without paying anything.
Right set it to 3. But isn’’t this thread about changing that to a charge? That’s why I got the Flex so I could use it with bike. i thought about asking here in the abstract, ‘’does anybody actually get pulled over on bikes anyway in the express lane or is there some surveilllance aspect I am missing“ But my ancient transponder had stopped beeping so I figured I needed a new one anyway.

This must have been what the news lady was talking about but did not mention Fastrack Flex pass, so I guess the implication is you'd pay 50% if you weren't flexing it. I think we've had discussion here before about existing toll lanes are free for motorcyclist but some reported a different experience.

"Carpoolers on the express lanes, as well as bus drivers, motorcycles and eligible clean-air vehicles pay half-price tolls or travel toll-free with a FasTrak Flex or FasTrak CAV."

When I ordered the thing I pondered the following but was almost afraid to ask:: if motos DON’T realistically get pulled over for not having a Flex in the Express lane, then having a Flex opens up the possibility of being billed and monitored. Kind of a “negotiating with the nanny state” and flying below the radar type o’ thing. Like why should I bother?? Is somebody actually watching or is it an empty mandate??
I do know that the formula for calculating the price at any given time of day involves counting vehicles. But not sure if that is by pavement sensors or those monitoring poles that display your flex settings to Johnny Law (if they are watching). If they are part of the process I can see the public “good” of carrying the thing. But even so it gives a false sense of population usage because nobody has 3 people on their bike (the setting it takes to use your moto legally).

I have yet to see a CHP sitting by the roadside near that special pole. In fact, as I said before, that speeding hellscape between Walnut Creek and Dublin is like the frickin Wild West so the idea of careful monitoring seems fanciful..

I don't commute on a bike, but I have used the pay to play lane on get away Fridays. Never got a bill. I have Fast Trak for the work rig, but try like hell not to use it since I am a firm "this sucks" except for rich people.

If I was on a moto and an express lane was available, then I'd treat like a toll and leave the tag at home. I bet you that the CHP wouldn't be interested in me unless I was engaged in other ticketable activity
