Tell me about that frame:teeth I've been lusting after the Merlin Newsboy since 1994... Maybe I can afford a Hunter?!

SS only?

I switched my deposit to "THIS" bike. The Jekyll weighs 31.5 lbs. It is more of a d/h bike. The Scott is more of a Cross Country bike.

I'm having them put on a longer (0 degree) stem.

Nice bike, much better decision than the Jekyll for what kind of riding you are describing. Beware on bike fit. Longer stems feel good for climbing, but the way they build mountain bikes now, you don't need anything over a 100mm stem anymore. 90mm is a good length for XC/Trail, but of course bike fit and body sizing comes into play. They are specing wider bars on bikes then they used to, with a wider bar you run a corresponding shorter stem. No need to go real short with a XC bike, but like I said anything over 100mm stem is for road bikes.

Also in the pics it looks like the hoses are way too long and going all over the place, I'd tell the bike shop to check that out, they should be just the right length and nice and tidy. As well looks like the brake levers(master cylinders) are pointing really high up.

oooooh...Merlin ti goodness :thumbup

Mine is SS only (but Rick builds geared bikes fer sure)...It's a Hunter Swamper 'Super' custom (steel).

My frame and Hunter rigid supercown fork now is around $3400 (with the Fox Terralogic fork and no rigid around $500 more)...and expect about a 2 year wait for completion :(

rest of the build is I9's, HBC rings, Middleburn RS8 cranks, eggie 4 ti's Formula R1 brakes (my XTR POS' fragged), etc..

If you like that cruiser type look check out retrotec (Curt Inglis)....you'll drool over those...Both Rick and Curtis are highly regarded builders...

But if you MUST have ti you can do no wrong contacting Black Sheep (drool)...or more of a straight forward Ti builder is Quiring. My wife has a Quiring 29'er...freaking 19.8lb 1X9.

Thanks to everyone on here that chimed in with their advice!!!!

I got my new bike today!!!

I will go and ride it and report back!!! GoRide bikes in Redwood City is an AWESOME shop!!!
