Hi all :twofinger,

Was on a walk with my dogs around my neighbourhood here, and saw a BARF sticker on the back of a VW Golf. Does anyone know of any German BARFers here? If so, PM me and lets have a beer soon.

Sadly, the Munich Oktoberfest is cancelled this year. :thumbdown

That is where you wanted to drink your beer, right?

OP, I thought you were in Australia?

Australia was awesome, but I met a European girl, yada yada yada. Ended up in Germany for 7 years. Will likely be here for another year or two then moving to Switzerland so little evil Anthony's can be spawned.

I'll snap a photo next time. There aren't too many twisties nearby Munich, but there are a hell of a lot of Adv bikes out here. I've met a few couples who spend every summer (1-2 months) biking around Europe and camping roadside.

Oktoberfest is definitely fun, and quite an experience - but it has it's pros/cons. During those 2 weeks, all prices in the city jump 300% (lodging/food/etc), trains/trams/buses are packed - but if you're at the Festival (Wiesn) then it's a full packed day of just laughing, drinking, and people watching. :party

Where in Switzerland are you headed? My daughter and SIL lived in Basel for 4 years. My granddaughter was born there, a great place to raise a kid. Just bring money with you. I loved our many trips to Switzerland, but they are in Texas now, not the same.

Yup. I loved Basel, but damn it was expensive! I remember arriving and having a light salad and soup, for close to $20 at a mediocre restaurant.

One of my oldest friends lives near Zurich and took the train over with his girlfriend to meet and greet. We had a great time. I'd go back again.

Switzerland is indeed an awesome place. My wife and I were fortunate to have an all expenses paid 1 week trip, sponsored by a Swiss machine tool manufacturer, exactly this time of year two years ago.

We spent 5 days on a bus visiting their factories and were treated amazingly well. We extended for 1 week after everyone else went home. It was the trip of a lifetime!

Switzerland is the most expensive country in Europe, but in the SF Bay Area, prices are not that far away anymore. Go to Panera some day.:wow
The thing that kills me about Europe is no free refills. :thumbdown
I was in Switzerland last Sept. and it is a living postcard for sure. :thumbup

yeah - basel is cool. and funny in an unintended way only the swiss can be.

Zurich for the first few years, and then depending on the company and what the startup market looks like - I'll move to Chur and commute daily to Zurich via train (1hr).

Munich isn't as expensive as Zurich but it's quite close, so I'm used to getting wallet-raped when eating out, unfortunately. That's why we mostly cook at home, or eat out in the surrounding villages when we want specialized local food.

Why must you move to die sweiz to procreate? Did you piss off the germans?

I've lived in Germany for 7 years, and while Germans generally are pretty cool - Bavarians are horrible :teeth . They're the Religious Texans of Germany, who resist any sort of change whatsoever and act very pompous towards the rest of Germany. It was ok at first, but over time it just gets tedious. So I've decided to try out the place that Bavarians hate most, Switzerland.

Girlfriend is from Davos (3.5 hrs drive from Munich) (Graübuden Canton) who needs the support of family/friends close-by, so it just makes sense if she spawns my kid (aka: apocalypse), that she has the people to support her nearby, while I do the 12hr workday in Zurich.

There I'll have the Ski slopes only walking distance from my place, Gf and I can finally buy an ADV Bike and ride in Summer through the alps for day rides. And my dogs will have as many mountains to hike as they please. So, I'm optimistic as usual. Lets see how it goes :thumbup

Sounds like life has taken you on an adventure and there is more coming. :thumbup
