Cliff notes: Girl was 16 when she had the baby month premature. It was a stillborn. She apparently did drugs including smoking crack while pregnant and toxicology of the baby was death by high levels of cocaine. Previous thought was a umbilical cord caused the death.

Mississippi law “depraved heart murder” “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” caused the death of her baby. "

Interesting case and going to set a precedent.

Addicts need treatment not prison. That goes triple for pregnant addicts.

Fuck, that's rough. I say charge her murder. If you don't want the kid, have an abortion. Don't poison it, fucking crackhead.

I do not agree with the charge. It's her body to poison as she sees fit.

I didn't miss your point, I disagreed with it. I understand the stance of not blaming a drug addict for what they do because they are a drug addict. I think it's bullshit.

Yes.

So you read the part about shabby work by the coroner, no conculsive evidence that it was crack poisoning, or that it does lead to stillborn?

No actually, you really don't get it. The goal is no dead kids. Treatment is offered to prevent dead kids. Not to absolve the addict of the deeds they do as an addict.

I cannot relate to this problem and should therefore have no say in it

Long term sure. I think it would be possible to keep a mother drug free during her pregnancy if there were enough resources allocated for it.

:laughing
You're advocating forced treatment of a pregnant mother?

Is your belief that only pregnant drug abusers should have a say, and not the rest of society?

I read the county medical examiner determined the death was due to cocaine and other reports have contested that. If it was due to a cord around the neck, then charging her would be obscene. I understand the precedent it could set for backwoods rednecks who are anti-choice. But if this girl's knowingly negligent behavior killed her child, I have no sympathy for her.

I agree there should be better treatment options, but its a moot point now. The kid is dead and if her addiction caused the death, I don't think she should get a pass because she is an addict.

We should just give people whatever they want, that way Darwin will weed out the genetics that result in a lack of self control :banana

If the alternatives are dead babies and or teenagers in jail for life then yes. Yes I am advocating an inpatient treatment center during pregnancy. You can give them the choice of treatment or jail and loss of custody if you think they need an incentive other then a healthy baby.

While we have them in treatment you could even go so far as teaching them basic parenting skills. Would it be expensive? Sure. Would it be cheaper then lifetime incarceration and care for crack head newborns. I think so.

Dead babies are not my concern, nor will they be a burden on me or my society. Harsh, but true.
Maybe go with the "crack babies can't live without massive expenditure of medical facilities, which would cost a lot of my money".

Please explain why teenagers would be in jail for life if we don't force-feed pregnant women drugs of our choosing.
