Got any music you discovered later in life? Any particular reason?

I grew up mainly on hip hop and R&B. Was never much of a rock guy and music wasnt big in my house.

My tastes have widened since high school to include bits of everything. After the season 3 finale of Sons of Anarchy I'm now hooked on Neil Young :thumbup

A cover of Hey Hey My My played and blew me away. I then listened to the original and dug it and spent about 30min watching Neil Young clips. Going to start pounding through some albums of his in the car and gym.

Here's the cover and the orig.

Beatles.

Hated them growing up, it was that "Old person music".

Then I met my wife, and heard the songs differently, don't know why.

There are still songs I can't really listen to because of her.

i find myself still primarilly focused on alternative, and keeping up with the current trends makes me feel not so old lol

but ive noticed my tatses are more meloncholoy, with female leads, quiter stuff. london grammar for instance

music that was around that I really didnt get into until later? mostly modern classical stuff out of europe

a lot of electronic music. i used to be a hard core metal head. but now im a psy head.

Older country music from the 50's and earlier. Helluva lot of history in those songs not to mention the natural talent those people had.

Today's country is just shitty rock music with fiddles.

I started learning classical style guitar at 30. I still don't play much classical (or Flemenco) music, but listening to thius guy opened a whole new world.

I prefer his solo version, but the only youtube clip I could find is a duet with his father:

Pepe Romero (with Celedino Romero)

I grew up on all forms of rock n roll. About 10 years ago I was on a flight across the country. I was tooling arround the planes music channels and came across an english vocalist named Sarah Brightman. I really enjoyed her and was sorry to find out she played the bay area the week I was away. I've since seen her live and am ashamed to say her music will bring me to tears.

johnny cash adn the beatles. just a few songs each.

Grew up on classic rock (post-1960), New Wave, "Alternative" as well as various classical music. Def Leppard was my gateway to metal back when I was 11 or so. :D Been going deeper and deeper down the metal hole ever since, tho I've picked up Outlaw Country in the mean time. However, been a J. Cash fan for a long time. Dabbled in electronica since high school. I dunno, can't say I've discovered anything in the past ten years or so, more just reaching deeper into the lesser known branches of "Rock".

Beastie Boys are about as hip-hop is it gets for me. :D

I've been listening to a lot of Fleetwood Mac lately.

I started listening to a lot of island style reggae after living in Hawaii for a few months.

John Zorn is a beast. Some people will listen to that and think it's just noise. I played saxophone for much of my life, majored in music theory, etc. blah blah and I can say that the things he does with the instrument are extremely difficult. Pure mastery.

Also, Neil Young is one of my favorites. Was just listening to "Cortez the Killer".

Cause Rap has overstayed it's fifteen minutes. Cause new artists are oversexed and decadent.
Tux helped me discover Kpop Rap. Helps to replace the poison that was taking up space among my interests.
Reason is purely a mental cleansing of what passes for current music.
