hey guys my bike caught on fire on golden gate cross polk st. it's right in front of the supreme court
fire truck came and put it off so it rolls and it stays on its stand. its probably 20% burned
im at the burn center at st francis.
i told the fire dpt not to tow it. and they said ok
could someone plz pick it up. i cant afford to get it towed.
thanks in advance

I'd find a way to help if I had a truck, but alas I don't anymore. Also, I would never pick up a bike at a stranger's request, not without the owner present. Too many "what if's" involved there.

Your best bet is to call a friend, and do it soon. Hope you heal up quickly! Sign up with AMA when you get the chance.

is a burned bike... i can provide proof its mine as needed

What the heck ? How did it catch fire ?

Screw the bike, how did he catch fire?

Hope you're OK and you get your bike sorted out.

But ummmm, how long did you ride it on fire to have to go to the burn unit?

A motorcyclist is a person who takes a highly flammable liquid, pours it between their legs on top of a very hot object.

OP hope you are ok and get it sorted.

Well, maybe gas tank venting hose.
If the tank is filled to top-top then sits in the sun, the gas will expand in the tank, push out the hose into the charcoal canister then when that's full, onto the ground by the rear wheel.
If the bike is an R1100GS, many people remove the canister and don't route the overflow line correctly so the raw gas can go anywhere.

I wish you speedy recovery.

A motorcycle catching fire between your legs is a nightmare. I hope you make a full and quick recovery.

You're correct but this happened after it was dark. Could be the vent tube was kinked and the heat from the engine caused it to piss out gas.

Not sure about what bike you have but 100% of the motorcycles I have had a chance lift the tank of only use the charcoal canister for the vent tube. The drain tube is just a drain.

On the bikes I have seen, the open drain is the Overflow/water drain that's outside fuel lid seal. If the tank is full, gas can go out the vent tube when tilting or expansion due to heat.

if you can wheel it in to the civic center garage just a block away it's 6$ a day parking, cheaper than a tow.

Many oilhead BMWs (R1100GS is an oilhead) had a plastic fuel "manifold" that was located under the battery.

The fuel "manifold" is really just a molded plastic Tee fitting and they failed/cracked and spilled fuel.

On my R1100RT I smelled fuel for a while every time I got off the bike but could not see any fuel leaks anywhere. I noted fuel mileage dropped 20% and started doing internet research ... and when I dug into the fuel manifold it crumbled in my hands.

replaced it with a brass Tee fitting.

No more issues.

I can see how that manifold failing could easily cause a fire.

OP, very sorry to hear about the fire, hope you are OK soon and can repair your bike.

I am too far away to help out.
