My first Ford ever

2014 Explorer.

After 30 years of problem free Toyota ownership I'm branching out and going American. So far so good, 76 miles and not one single problem :thumbup

Keep me posted man, I'm about to drop $40k on a 2014 Highlander Limited but am thinking maybe the Explorer might be the look instead.

But yeah, I'm a Toyota whore too.

My dad just got a Ford Explorer. He then found out that no trailer rental company rents to people who own Ford Explorers for some reason.

AWD or FWD.......... yes the new ones are FWD now. theyre nice though. hopefully they dont live up to the old nickname so far i havent seen or heard any problems

I had one as a long term (week and a half) rental and enjoyed it quite a bit. They feel a lot bigger than the Explorers of old, but do fine on the roads. If I wanted a vehicle that big I'd buy one. Don't know if it will be as trouble free as a Honda or Toyota, but I do believe American cars have come a long way.

2 things I didn't like about the Highlander: no tilt wheel and the drivers side was a bit cramped for my comfort tastes. It's either a comfy fit or it's not.

If you buy an Explorer go through the Costco website and they will direct you your local dealership internet sales and you get a no haggle take it or leave it price which turned out to be pretty good for me. I'm not even a Costo member, I used a friends just to test the water they gave me the discount anyways.

I hear they are better now. I had a 1992 Exploder and swore blood vengeance against all Fords forever.

Probably gonna be more reliable too. You'd never guess the MDX is a Honda based on how many problems I'm seeing with them now.

Curious as to what you're seeing. We've been looking at new SUVs and the MDX was on the short list. Others were Explorer, Grand Cherokee, Q5, Q7, Durango, 4Runner, Sequioa, and X5.

With all the discounts I got going directly to the dealer, I really doubt Costco's price will end up being cheaper. Unfortunately you'd have to go through the whole thing on both sides to know for sure.

I have no direct discounts to Ford unfortunately but they did also include all the rebates as well to my Costco price. I was pretty happy and didn't have to play the negotian bullshit with a sales vulture.

Way? Damn ok color me convinced.
While I feel like I got a good deal, I would have loved to go there with a Costco price in hand and have them subtract all the rebates as well.

Preparation and attitude.

I first called the internet sales lady and thanked her for her time and confirmed that the discount she emailed me would apply to what ever Explorer I picked, I was just undecided about color. I made her laugh too referreing to the salesmen as "those buzzards that sit on the branches outside the show room".

That helped.

She told me to see her and she'd get the sales manager to honor the costco price and all I had to do was pick which one I wanted. Still took about 2 1/2 hours from start to driving off the lot (paperwork, wash & detail the Explorer, etc.,) but it was zero stress or confrontation.

Oh, be warned, silver is one of those invisible colors that get hit a lot. Hope you have day time running lights.

Ant, what did you poop on?! And why was it grey???:wtf
