2001 SV650 (currently nonop) and 2002 Bandit 1200
I just completed my Master's Degree in Fine Arts (Fiction), and my awesome husband nickb just bought me a new (to us) motorcycle. We're picking it up tomorrow.

2002 Bandit 1200. Just over 5k miles. And with the exception of some rust spots on the chain, in showroom condition. Does not seem to be affected by the smoking problem, either.

I love my '01 SV650 but after eight years, it's taken some abuse, and I also just need a larger bike. And it's going to be great to have another Bandit 1200 in the household.

Nothing like a Bandit 12 for hopping great gobs of torque in any gear at any speed.

I spy a stock pipe. After you get used to the arm stretching torque, get a jet kit and pipe in there. Low miles on an older carbed bike could be a hassle if it's not running sweet as is.

Even the smokers (like mine) of that year still run fine, they just eat oil. And the valve intervals are really conservative. Once they settle in past 10-15K miles, check them every 10K or as you can afford it or the time to do it yourself.

You have a great guy there. Congrats on the MFA

A bike I've always considered upgrading to from my SV650, enjoy.

I did. I was pretty nervous upgrading because I was completely content with the speed of the SV for pretty much everything, but the B12 proved to be a great daily rider. Extremely manageable power, much like the SV. No crazy spikes or inconvenient surges or stupid fuel maps to tweak. :thumbup Also, if your SV is cramped (mine was) the Bandit is like riding around a plush chair.

Great buy, OP. Keep up with maintenance and they will run forever. They may not be the fanciest motorcycles out there, but they're fast, get great mileage, and invisible to cops. :teeth

YOU TEMPT ME! It'll be a good 3 years before I could consider it.

Why would you do this to a perfectly nice motorcycle, that already has plenty of power? Just to go deaf? Or burn more fuel? Or what? :confused

Congrats Janna. :thumbup

That's like me buying my girlfriend a porsche 911 GT3 & a subscription to play boy for her birthday... it ain't gonna be for her. :twofinger

You're a lucky woman to find a husband with such a keen eye... ;)

Oh, he's already got his own Bandit 1200. This one's mine all mine, baby. :)

(Actually, I did offer to take over riding his Bandit, which has many more miles, and let him have the pristine one, but he said, "Wife deserves nice bike.")
