my latest DUI checkpoint experience

Here's an article detailing differences between saturation patrols and checkpoints with arrest statistics.

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m2194/is_1_72/ai_97857809/

^^^ Wow- long read:nerd

The conclusion:
"Overall, measured in arrests per hour, a dedicated saturation patrol is the most effective method of apprehending offenders. Such concerted efforts also may serve as a general deterrence if their activities are publicized and become widely known.'

If I were a cop all your base would belong to The Round.

If a cop were posted at each bar the issue would be "entrapment" or "intimidation" or some other such offense at our rights.

I'm always amazed that cops don't lie in wait outside bars. I wonder why that is?

Because people would be crying out "entrapment" in a millisecond. And all of you"They stoled my freedoms" types would be right there with them defending their right to drive drunk. (That's not directly pointed at you ills).

cops post outside bars ALL THE TIME.

BTW I think it is a GREAT deterrent for a drunk who is about to get in his car and drive home. He sees teh popo posted outside and suddenly his beer goggles become more clear...he has a reality check and opts for the cab instead of the car. If the beer goggles don't clear and said reality check doesn't happen he usually gets popped...which he should be.

where have you been? they do it all the time. got no problem with that either.

I have no problem with it either. But I don't see it.

I don't think so.

As an example.
Entrapment is when the cop persuades you to drink when you weren't going to drink and then to drive when you weren't going to drive, then busts you.

Well it wouldn't be entrapment.:laughing Sitting outside a bar will get the message across for most people, but if they want to make arrests, all they have to do at 12AM-3AM; They look for the cars w/ fogged up windows, driving w/ cold engines, observe their driving and look for a violation to form probable cause.

no we wouldn't that is a perfectly good use of police reasources. it's not entrapment because a cop parking accross the street from a bar is not forcing anyone to do anything.

a friend of mine back home got busted for lighing up the tires on his 79' Trans Am out front of one of the wildest bars in town at 2AM. local PD was waiting right there and boom, DUI.

of course what does the block head do as soon as he gets his car back two days later? the same thing and gets another DUI from the same cop. :facepalm

my buddy gave the PD more than enough probable cause and he was rightly busted for his shenanigans. quite frankly, I'm glad they brought the hammer down on him before he hurt someone.
